Lots of great news this week for Georgia Southern.

Tuition for 2017 is higher for GS so are fees. Not a huge difference though, nothing to get bent out of shape about for sure.

Still getting a lot of push back from Armstrong students. That's to be expected though.

I saw a picture of a protest that had ten people....not sure most reallllly care.

There were dozens! I was going to post the article here, but I didn't want to embarrass those quoted. In fact, after reading said quotes I'm not convinced we should go through with this. 03-lmfao

Considering GS is Armstrong students' number one choice to transfer to, I think most Armstrong students are glad we're coming to them instead.

When you cross over 25K for a four year+ public you are getting to be one of the larger schools in the country. We will be bigger than Auburn and about the same size as Oklahoma for perspective. Really this will pay off later down the road with the much larger alumni base we are severely lacking in now. Our alumni base is low compared to most similar peer institutions and nothing like the much older large universities. Cross over to the 30,000 plus range and you are top 10%+/- of four year+ public. Then it is a matter of perspective as this is close by but not the main campus. Technically University of Phoenix has the largest enrollment but we all know what that is about.

and if some of the growth numbers for the next 10 years come to fruition, Southern will have an enrollment approaching the 50k mark.

Youre doubling in size? By when? 2067?

It's been stated by the USG that they are planning that the student population of the Savannah campus will double to 14k. Meanwhile the south campus expansion in Statesboro will take place which is suppose to attract 10k more students to Statesboro. 21k students already attend Ga Southern. 21k + 14k + 10k = 45k

RE: Georgia Southern - Armstrong Atlantic State Merger
I've seen some pretty official numbers and they are telling me ~22,500/7,500 by 2025. Of course those projections were put together pre-consolidation, and different plans could always come up that change things. But those are USG projections from 2016.

RE: Georgia Southern - Armstrong Atlantic State Merger
One aspect that should be huge for the new school is out of state enrollment. Armstrong hasn't put a strong effort into attracting out of state students. Coastal schools from Florida to NC (including Coastal Carolina) attract a ton of out of state students from the mid-atlantic and northeast - no reason why GS can't leverage the coast and/or Savannah to attract more out of state students.

That will be insane, that on paper is feasible but being off by 5K and you are talking about still being one of the biggest four year public universities in the country. Thinking its a little bold... or really blowing my mind from when I was at GS, I believe my freshman year we were around 15K, seems like yesterday.

Honestly, if this merger puts Georgia Southern over 30,000 by 2020, that will be very impressive and a huge foot print along the coastal border.

I think this merger is going to put the south campus project on hold for a while especially if programs move between colleges and new programs are added to the Savannah and Statesboro campuses to take up any unused buildings. If any campus is going to expand, it'll be the Savannah one.

I agree. Savannah campus growth with the Georgia Southern name will bring it to great heights!

My how times have changed. Couple of years ago we're concerned about state funding projects. The Savannah campus is an extremely attractive investment from the states point of view. Academic construction in the Boro may slow but based on current funded projects not any time soon and with a 35% increase in enrollment over night the common projects such as administrative infrastructure and seating for events such as graduation may move up the list of priorities in the Boro.

That's a lot of dorms / buildings for just 2K.

I dont think one has anything to do with the other but it could. Depends exactly what the Sav campus is going to be used for. If it is for masters and mainly non traditional students then I think the South campus is not delayed at all.
