RE: Elon
Is CAA POY award based on the entire season or just play in conference games? If it's just Conference games Dixon is gonna have a good shot at it.

RE: Elon
JMU tried to destroy the League's RPI in OOC by losing to anyone and everyone and now they are trying to further destroy it by taking their 335 RPI and beating everyone in the league...nice.

Charleston does the smart thing up 3 with 5 seconds and fouls Towson. As a reward for making the smart decision, Towson bricked both FTs

RE: Elon
Omar didn't have good results shooting the ball tonight, but he was effective passing and occupying defenders. When Elon switched, he posted up and made them pay attention. We got some open looks because their defense was spread thin. Malinowski keyed our second half, much like he did against Hofstra. He also played a lot of good defense and rebounded well at both ends. Certainly both didn't play their best game, but they weren't as bad as this thread would make it seem.
Coach Shaver said in the postgame that it was on the coaches that some guys didn't get more time even though they played well. He called out Pierce for having a good game and only 12 minutes. I thought that Tot should have been playing instead of Burchfield as well. Tot was very good defensively tonight, and we needed that. In the coaches' defense, with the depth we have it can be difficult to make sure everybody's getting time, so defining specific roles makes it harder to lose a player on the bench. Burchfield and Dixon sub for each other, so we didn't see more Tot.

Some coaches (I think including Shaver) think it's bad sportsmanship to foul when you're up three. I think that's dumb, but that's usually the reason that there's no foul.

Probably because this debacle from McCurdy is still on Shaver's mind...

I almost wish Omar would only play inside. He's clearly struggling with his shot but he's still got good post moves and can draw defenders and make smart plays

Burchfield looked bad tonight.
Never go sideline against a press. If for some reason you do, don't pick up your dribble.
DD is the man.

I am frustrated with Omar, not because his shots aren't falling, but because he's dropping his head and shoulders afterwards in frustration, and, consequently, having lapses of very sloppy play. Daniel did the same thing earlier in the season before he adjusted his attitude. His game followed. Can't always control shots falling or getting foul calls, especially when opposing teams are focusing on you, but you can control how you play through it and help the team, not hurt it. It's all mental. Omar may not embrace being a vocal leader, but his confident, hard all around play speaks volumes to how this team follows. Just imagine how difficult this team will be to handle with Omar and Daniel both playing at their full abilities together. Senior urgency for every day left. This is it.
Regarding Connor's play, we have a great group of role players that when put together well can be very, very good, collectively. With all of the changing combinations, though, it may be hard for players to stay focused on what they and each of their teammates do best, and players tend to try to do things outside what they do best by default. Hard for a team to get and stay in rhythm, both offensively and defensively, when the group you're on the floor with is constantly changing. I have watched Richmond, who is not very talented, start to play at a higher level the past 10 days when they have lost a few players to injury/illness in their previous rotation. I suspect their smaller rotation has been the real cause and effect. Coach K has always narrowed his rotation down to 7 , 8 players max once into the heart of the season. No doubt there is a proven reason. We've got a 10 player rotation. That's a lot of right buttons to push night in and night out and get consistency.

RE: Elon
Many of the comments have been on the mark...just a few of my own:
*I believe we'll see more of Omar in the pivot area where his variety of hooks and layups are very difficult to defend. Despite his recent three-point problems he's still rebounding and passing well.
Had some key assists last night.
*Daniel is in a higher zone (obviously!). I put much of that on his increased driving to the basket;
this makes him very difficult to defend...defenders can't press too much when he's on the outside
or he'll use his speed to go right around them, leading oftentimes to wide open threes.
*Malinowski played a terrific second half last night--scored all eleven of his points, including three trifectas, and had six of his season-high seven rebounds. He showed the body control and fluidity
of his game.
*Pierce and Tot played well when they were in: some of Elon's 3-point success dropoff in the second half was when those two would use their length out on the perimeter to force difficult three-pointers.
*Our two big men again scored big--20 points between them. Knight's three-pointer brought oohs and aahs from the crowd. Jack''s foul shooting again needs work--Tony has to take him out in crunch time as other teams will foul Jack. But these two guys have to be right at the top in the CAA for post point production between them.
*Cohn big with his two big three pointers in second half...also chipped in four assists.
We need to win Drexel and, hopefully, see Omar have his big game, before going next week to UNCW
and Charleston!

RE: Elon
I will say that as much as I have been frustrated to a degree with Omar's offensive shot selection, his rebounding has been awesome and is so key! He can be a great rebounder and has really helped; especially on the defensive boards!
I love that our 5 (Jack/Nathan) can box out the other team's big hard (like Gustys) and then guys like Omar, Greg, Justin, etc can use their athleticism and attack the defensive board hard.
We've got to keep Rodney off the boards on Saturday.
