Kill was the one who told KB to interview Fleck

I reached out to a MN friend and asked him about Jerry Kill.
This was his response:

"I just heard about the Fleck/ Kill relationship earlier today, so that definitely might stop him from coming here. Kill wasn’t thrilled when he left here and Claeys getting canned only adds gas to that fire."

Sounds like good news from MN!

And Kill has recently been quoted as saying he will NEVER step foot on the Minnesota campus ever again. That is how much he hates the current President and AD. If he has pull with Fleck, then PJ is NOT going north...

PJ's not going anywhere guys. He seemed pretty passionate about refuting rumors that he was still open to going anywhere but Kalamazoo after the Cotton Bowl. Actually looked annoyed by those continuing questions, although he better get used to them. Plus, we've had a stellar week of recruiting, which tells me he's getting the word out that he's not going anywhere. Let's hope that the big WMU contract extension news is announced by the end of the week and PJ and the assistants are getting paid, so these mid-tier to lower BIG programs will no longer be a future worry to the fanbase.

PJ Fleck may go a lot of places. Minnesota in its current situation is NOT one of them.

One of the things, among many others, that he likes about his situation here is the unconditional support of the administration. His bond with KB, as the one who initially rolled the dice on him, is deep. To go to a situation where the current administration is openly hostile toward the football program isn't gonna happen.

Plus, as several others have mentioned ITT, if he calls Kill for his opinion, yeah....

Minnesota Football is in big, big trouble.

They may have backed themselves in a corner Im guessing that the coaching fraternity is a close knit group and it will be hard for minnesota to find a proven coach willing to take that job.

How do you "understand" that?

And even if he does - doesn't mean it's reciprocal.

I tend to think it's mostly speculative gossip. But.....even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.

I'm sure "Cleveland local" has sources inside the Kelly camp.

If Kelly is serious about Minnesota then he must be a glutton for punishment San Francisco was a hornets nest when he took that job much like Minnesota is now. He only lasted one year there.

Pfft - Cleveland is a long way from Columbus-OSU.

I have not read, seen, or heard one thing linking Chip Kelly to Minnesota.

RE: U of MN coach out
I listened to the Kill interview with ESPN. He was pretty candid. Basically sounds like he was ticked off that his friends got fired and they talked about integrity and stuff. Sounds like the administration is a clown show. He also speculated that Minny may have had their replacement in mind well before the firing, which could mean that maybe Fleck is in play. Near the end of the interview, they did mention PJ and Kill just shut that down and wouldn't speculate. It was tough to tell either way how he felt about it, on one hand, I almost thought them bringing up PJ's name pissed him off, on the other I think he shut it down because he knows that PJ isn't taking that job because of the administration.

So...just an odd situation.

I am a Cleveland native, it is Yuge Big Ten country, The Cleveland plain dealer is filled with Ohio State articles nearly daily. Local media follows the buckeyes nearly as closely as they do the Indians and Cavs. I read Cleveland media daily, and the buckeyes are my second favorite college team behind Western and of course Kalamazoo College softball!

If you get a chance, go to Cleveland.com and you will encounter tons of buckeye stories.

And yet neither the Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE nor St. Paul PIONEER PRESS have mentioned Chip Kelly in connection with the Minnesota job.

RE: U of MN coach out
According to an NPR interview with Kathy B. today at 4:00pm (MPR out of Ann Arbor). She says that Fleck is not going to Minny and that they are nailing down the particulars of his contract. She also stated that people are seriously underestimating WMU's ability to keep Fleck in Kalamazoo.

Take from that what you can, but it sounds to me like she is saying that he is here for at least another year.
