2017 Bowl Game Tie-insas
What bowl games have a Sun Belt tie-ins for 2017? Isn't there a rotating slot in the Bahamas bowl or something that opens up?

Yeah, I'm afraid we're gonna get stuck with bowls that no one can travel to.

I think this year we may get a AAC team in New Orleans.

Our Bahamas tie in is with either the MAC or CUSA. Our New Orleans opponent is another matter. I'm trying to find whether this is the year the AAC rotates in or not.

I thought the story I remembered was that both CUSA and the SBC agreed to cede their bowl tie in to the AAC for a single year each in exchange for a tie from a normal AAC Bowl. The SBC I know gave up New Orleans in 2019 in exchange for a tie in with Miami for a single year, but a lot of things have changed since the deal was first signed.

6 tie-ins next year. So if we're bowl-eligible we'll likely end up in Tucson rather than Boise whether ESPN likes it or not.

2018 is the year AAC is in the New Orleans Bowl vs SBC. 2019 it's AAC vs CUSA there.

Coach Joey Jones speaks highly of the AZ bowl experience. From what I gather on some comments from the bowl directors is that they'll look for another conference rather than the Sun Belt for this bowl that is expected to become a high-touted bowl. Unless, the SB schools bring in a lot more fans....

With Idaho and NMSU leaving it really doesn't make much sense for the Sun Belt to go to this bowl. It would be nice if we could switch out with CUSA since they have more teams in Texas. Tough location for a startup bowl with very few G5 teams around.

I think it was hinted that they will not renew with the Sunbelt. They may try a P5 conference but probably with get with CUSA or AAC or both.

If they want the AAC to sign on, they better find a TV partner that isn't the American Sports Network.

They'd have the same problem with any G5 league that they have with the Sun Belt, fans are not going to travel that far for a bowl game.

I thought they rotated the Peach, Fiesta, and Cotton.

This year was Western Michigan in cotton
Last year Houston in peach

- my guess would be Fiesta Bowl for next season

It honestly doesnt matter at this point. Let them sign on with a conference as their 13th bowl tie in when they can't even fill 12 spots. They will just end up with a Sun Belt team anyway if we have an extra or a 5-7 team.

I would like to see us get a bowl tie in with the SEC, even if it was SEC #12 against our #2. Imagine a bowl that could put ULL-LSU, or Bama/Auburn-USA/Troy, UGA-GaSt/GaSo, stAte-ArKansas, TxSt-TA&M, USCjr-Coastal. I think you get the idea, could make for an intriguing matchup.

Whichever g5 team is closest to the Fiesta, cotton or peach when not hosting a playoff. Next year the Rose and Sugar host the playoff.
