In the worst Massacres since Custer last night brought new light to the fake P and G monikers. Note to the American Conference, no need to make P 6 stickers anymore.

This year you had the P2 Alabama & Clemson
and the G-126 everyone else.

It's not a "fake" moniker, at least not the "G5" part. The term is used on the official CFP web page:

" ... the CFP selection committee will assign teams to the Cotton Bowl. Those two teams will be (1) the highest ranked champion from the “group of five” conferences and (2) the highest ranked team not selected for the semifinals or the contract bowls. "

That's just a website. It's not an official designation. The official designation from the CFP agreement is "contract" and "non-contract" conferences. Not that it makes much difference. The first time I heard the term "group of 5" it was used by commissioner Karl Benson to describe early talks in the BCS meeting designed to craft the new CFP agreement in early 2012. It seemed to gain traction in the press shortly afterwards. If the term was around prior to that I certainly hadn't heard it.

Well, it's not just a web site, it's the official web site of the college football playoff.

None of us have presumably actually looked at the real CFP contract documents so we don't know exactly what they say. But even if they don't formally use "group of five", IMO it is significant that the official web site uses that language. It can't be written off as just random media propaganda.

I call the so-called P5 the E5 (Entitled 5 or Entitlement 5).
