Next year his make or break year. It is time to compete for the conference, if we don't, it's probably time to make a change.

FIU proved we don't have to look at SBC assistants for our next coach. We should be able to make a big hire from a big program. I still like Coach John Grass at JSU. Maybe even pull Polini from Youngstown, see if he wants back in FBS. If Idaho completes the move, got a Patrino brother they may want to stay in conference. Plenty of options if needed.

Until he's not our coach, he's our coach. GO JAGS!!!

I think you confused FIU's coach with FAU's hire. FAU hired Kiffen. FIU just stinks.

FIU hired Butch Davis. They will not stink for long

Well, I am not a Cobb "hater" (although I'm glad to have DG now) but we do know that he is not known for casting the net too widely in his "national searches." Mostly likely he knew he wanted Shawn Elliott and didn't talk to too many others.

See what happens next year. USA is a funky team. Beat Miss St and SDSU but struggle against FCS teams and other games you would think should be wins.

I think those two wins and a bowl invite make it hard for an AD to fire a coach this late. Hopefully, you don't extend him like TXST did with Fran.

The question now is, who does South go after as the new coach?

Given his performance, his many wins, offenseive style, proven years of a head coach, why has South Alabama not hired John Grass from Jacksonville State? Personally hope you do not do so for competitive reasons but he is proven and a Alabama son that would be great for recruiting.

I remember just a couple years ago, USA fans were claiming the reason Troy has fallen is because USA is now in the picture and taking a lot of our recruits. 03-drunk

Too many G5 teams have this pathology that they need an FBS or a "big-time" coach. Silliness. I'll take an accomplished FCS head coach any day of the week.

John Grass is 23-0 in conference games in 3 seasons at Jacksonville State. Now the OVC is a mediocre FCS conference but that's still darned impressive.

I would consider Chris Hatcher, too. He's a Power 5 level offensive coordinator and a good recruiter, and he seems to be much better overall manager than when he was at Georgia Southern.

Up until last year, Grass' ill mother lived about 45 minutes west of Jacksonville. She passed away, don't know if that was a reason for Grass to stay at JSU and now reason why he could go somewhere else this year. But either way, I'd love to have him at South.

He will likely be on our watch list if Brown is taken away this year

Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma is likely on top of our list IMO

Joey, do the RIGHT THING and RESIGN!

please, USA pays Joey Jones under 600k.

if you want a good coach then be prepared to open the checkbook.

Anderson has won 2 out of 3 Sun Belt titles since he's been coaching in the league.

How many has Brown won?

In their only meeting, Anderson's team beat Brown's team 35-3 at Brown's place.

I wouldn't say it's a bigger "if."

You have also lost several you shouldn't have... like Last year to a FCS.

Anderson took over a program in good running

Brown brought ours back to life in year two.. got ranked and beat a ranked . 10 wins and a bowl win

Also a lot of your own fans want him fired

I have a good bit of respect for Jones but I didn't agree with going for it rather than kicking to make it 22. What made it more appalling is he used a gadget play.

Then goes for it on fourth and short (though I'm guessing it may have actually been a quick kick) with another gadget.

I am not a fan of using a play you don't regularly practice and use often in clutch situations.

We don't put teams away, ever. Last night Joey out thought the situation instead of putting the game away. We haven't been in that situation in the past 5 plus years, no experience with it. Bad play calling for sure, even with the big win, we have bone head play calling to end what was a great game.

Watching the game, you go wow, he's got it figured out, last 7 minutes, "No he doesn't".......01-wingedeagle
