IMO, I think Boise's success is achievable for a few Sunbelt teams. No reason an undefeated Sunbelt team can't get a major bowl.

On paper, there isn't a ceiling. But we don't live out our lives on paper. Eventually, you do good enough, long enough, and universities with more money come calling. It goes for us all the way to the AAC. For some the situation matters more, but eventually the situation gets overshadowed by the dollar bills. Any G5 AD should have an evolving short list updated and available at any time. The best case scenario is that his successors are able to pick up the ball and keep marching forward like Houston and Briles-Sumlin-Herman. Levine almost wrecked 10 years of work in his 3 seasons. And some teams fall right back into the hole with the next hire. It is just the way of life down here.

There are maybe 5 jobs out of 128 with no ceiling. Everyone else has a price.

The Satterfields have spent time in Toledo, OH and Miami, FL so it is not as if they have not given the "away from the family" a try.

There is a lot of thought that Charlie Cobb left for GaSt due to his wife being from Atlanta.

We also had a coach in Men's Basketball coach, leave, return a few years later and then leave for UNC-Wilmington after one season. What I heard was that his wife hated the mountains, and wanted something more than Boone. In fact she may not have even moved to Boone from Charlotte.

Even when these jobs pay a lot a spouse can have a huge pull on family decisions.

All the above is speculation on my part as far as spousal influence of course.

It may be that he is happy coaching at his alma mater. Boone is a great place to raise a family. Like most any college town it does have cultural events that much larger cities would have without some of the problems that large cities have. The worst part about Boone is that there are no railroads to watch and the nearest Amtrak station is two hours away in Greensboro, but I am not sure if Scott likes trains as much as I do.

No. It just means he hasn't gotten a worthwhile offer yet. None of the above matters a single bit.

Please do because I never said any such thing. 07-coffee3

Umm he was paraphrasing but you damn sure did say things close to that homeboy. So did Hammer, Saintdikhead and one other guy...I think. Eagle22 can easily bring up the old threads...lets just agree you were very overly optimistic on where GaSt would be today. You are still that way for the most part but not near as bad.

Not one coach goes to a Sun Belt team as of today and thinks, "ya know this is where I want my coaching career to end" either. Especially ones below 40 years old. CTS can spout all the hokey crap in the thickest southern accent he wants but if cook saves his ass he is gone to the first 1M paycheck thrown in his face.

The truth of Satterfield's situation is somewhere in between the App fan's understanding of the situation and the rest of the SBC fan bases.

If App fans don't think he leaves for a 100% or more pay raise you are delusional. Econ 101 must not be offered at app. Hydroponics 101 has taken econ's place in the app curriculum.

Sometimes coaches jump too soon. This is college football, be patient and wait for the right opportunity, not just the next one.

Chris Petersen stayed at Boise State far longer than he had to, but he still went to a higher profile job. Brad Stevens turned down the likes of Oregon and UCLA when Butler was still in the Horizon League. He, like Satterfield, was a native of the state where his team resides. His wife was from Zionsville, 10 miles north of the Butler campus. He didn't graduate from Butler (his degree is from Wabash College, 30 or 40 miles west of Indianapolis), but his ties to the school and city of Indianapolis are strong. He left a great job with Eli Lilly as a young man shortly after college to volunteer coach at Butler. Eventually, though, he left, too.

If App can get the kind of loyalty out of Stay that Butler and Boise State did, it is beyond lucky.

Only difference is that Brad Stevens proved he could compete for National Titles at Butler, and Petersen took Boise to a whole bunch of major bowl games.

Satterfield doesn't have those abilities at App. At some point, he's going to hit a celing, in which the Mountaineers can go no higher because of the way FBS Football works.

So what is that ceiling for App or any other Sunbelt team?

I don't think Sat leaves unless the right P5 program comes calling. If he improves on his success, it will happen. Will be sad to see him go.

Possibly, but it's going to take years and years to get there based on what it took Western Michigan to get the spot this year.

Coming from a Louisiana fan and Arkansas State fan, this means nothing. State is a turnstile for coaches with no ties to Arkansas State other than maybe a short stint as an assistant at one point along the way.

Satterfield has far more history with App than any coaches usually do that make the "I'm happy here" comment.

I can thnk of a lot worse gigs than getting paid over $500K to coach your alma mater and raising you kids in a place like Boone. I have a good friend who turned down a head job in this conference because he didn't want to move his daughter into her 3rd high school in four years. There are a few coaches out there who actually care more about the well being of their family than they do dollars.

He seems to be a man of principle. If he says that money isn't his motivation then it will take a big time program with the chance to compete for a National Championship to get him away from Boone.

Per Brett McMurphy.. Lane is going after local high school coaches to fill his staff.

This should be a fun firework show to watch.

A lot of the High School coaches in that area will probably be able to coach at FAU just fine.

Yes because the concept of someone having personal ties to his job is so rare and complicated to understand. Only app fans and satterfield know what that's like. Notice these coaches never use the word content, if satterfield would ever leave, he was still happy in Boone.
