North Texas
Very impressive 83-62 win today. I know North Texas isn't a very good team, but I don't think ANYBODY expected this one. 5 Dragons in double figures with Rodney leading the way with 20. Team shot 50% (12 for 24) from 3, which was impressive after going only 4-18 on Friday.

Here's some irony...
*Drexel beats a team from Conference USA by 20+ points today.
*Last time Drexel beat a team by 20+ points was when they destroyed Southern Miss 59-36 at the DAC on 11/30/14.
*Prior to that, the last previous 20+ point win for Drexel was when they beat Central Florida 81-56 in the NIT. At the time, Central Florida played in (you guessed it), Conference USA.

Yeah conference realignment has not been kind to CUSA especially from the basketball perspective. It is a far cry from the days of Louisville, Memphis, Cinncinati, DePaul, Marquette, etc. I'm guessing after Spiker wins three conference championships in a row and starts looking to move up, we won't lose him to the CUSA like happened with Herrion.

Although teams like Hartford and North Texas aren't the toughest of challenges, I think they ( and some of the weaker teams upcoming on the schedule) are probably what this team needs now. It is nice to see guys like Austin and the freshmen gaining confidence that could pay off come the conference schedule. Now it would be nice to see Miles and Myles get things going a bit.

Drexel was a 6 point dog in this game as well. I'm surprised Vegas was that off.

Vegas is not that good at line predicting smaller conferences in general.

I agree Waterboy the soft schedule is what this type of team with new talent and a new coaching staff needed to build confidence. I have assumed he scheduled like this on purpose and that this type of schedule won't become our norm. I am glad our guys appear to be building confidence. Confidence is a very important quality to have in the game of basketball. I know Miles saw few minutes yesterday, but hopefully he can work his way out of his funk by the time the conference slate rolls around.

Through 4 games, I have been impressed with how Spiker has handled this job and opportunity and it certainly appears he has this group and program heading in the right direction. It certainly makes watching games and the rest of the OOC intriguing to see the progress we make with each game.

It is only four games but so far one has to be impressed with how he pulled together a team. Three of the top four scorers so far consist of a guy who wanted to transfer out after Spiker was hired but then was brought back in, a freshman that is 5'8", and another freshman from Iceland. On top of that he gets a last minute walk-on who is actually serviceable as a back-up point guard.

Completely agree. He was working with a bare cupboard and has made it look somewhat filled. He had a large task in front of him and he has not shied away from the challenge on on level. It is very much promising.

When is the last time a Drexel team (men's) shot over 50% from the floor? Very promising indeed!

Dan put together a great writeup on the North Texas game here:

To answer this question, sort of, I'll quote Dan:

"Notes: Drexel had an effective fg% of 64.4% in this game. The team only bettered that number six times in the last decade."

Can't guarantee that this was the last time. But I skimmed few some box scores from the past few years. The last that I could find was 1/31/2015 when Drexel beat UNCW 85-76 at the DAC when the shot 60.4% from the field. That other Drexel player from Baltimore with the last name of Lee went 10-14 from the field and scored 32 that day. From what I can remember about that game, Keatts did a lot of full court pressing throughout the game and Drexel did a really good job of beating the press which led to a lot of easy baskets.
