i think that's the issue for me. right or wrong...strong programs with a strong reputation shouldn't have to go too far off the porch to get players. maybe i hear james franklin in my head talking about penn state dominating the state. it was a red flag by his own standards when the top overall recruit 2 years ago was right down the street from knoebels amusement park and he switched to ohio state. back to back .500 came after it.

I think the expectation is he would be a walk on, and I think the other offers he has support that. Would be really nice to hear something for Drexel soon. Lots of options out there, would be nice to see which direction the staff is headed.

Finally got someone. 6'8" forward with 3 years left. Stats are underwhelming to say the least

Story appears to be paywalled, but the Inky has a piece on Simmons.

Sounds like interest dropped after he got injured, but Drexel stuck with him.

“They were the first ones to really believe in me and give me a chance,” Simmons said. “ … I just felt like since they were the first ones to really give me an opportunity, that kind of helped my decision a little bit.”

It's nice to get a rare 3 star recruit. But the new state of college basketball has made it hard to get too excited. If he turns out to be any good, he'll be one and done. The best mid-major programs will be the ones who figure out how to keep their young superstars for 3-4 years. So far so good with Drexel WBB, but it hasn't been the case for the men.

RE: Recruiting Thread
I'm always happy whenever we get a 3-star local guy, no matter how long he stays with the program. With the basketball talent in the area, I think we can succeed as a program where talented local kids can get early playing time before transferring out, and on the flip side, talented local kids who went elsewhere and aren't playing can come back home and play more. So if Simmons succeeds, it's a proof of concept that could really help us down the line.

Of course, if he does stick around, that's an extra bonus to us.

Most likely 2 years unless he is a "superstar". If he is great and we win that will bring more players to Drexel.

RE: Recruiting Thread
We have debated that for years here even before the transfer portal, even with coaches. Being a VCU who cycled through coaches due to success isnt a bad thing. Being a stopping point due to success instead of the end game is not the worst outcome because it means you have a culture of continued success. While its not ideal from a player standpoint for fans to "know" the players, I think we would all give that up for knowing we would be consistently good each year no matter what names we have on the roster.

In this day in age, players are rarely going to stick around for 4 years anyhow, so might as well embrace it and get good at the game and be the stepping stone program that others are more than happy to go to first before getting the promotion to the power schools.

He looks like another Amari. Whoever is in charge of our international recruiting is doing a really good job.

Is he the tallest player Drexel has ever gotten? This says that he's 7 foot.

This says that he's 7 foot 1 inch.
