RE: Sources: NO Bowl eyeing Troy, ODU Match up
I watched last Sat the Old Dominion game for a half, they are a lot better then when they played us at the beginning of the year, but, if Troy played their best ball, they would win by 10-14 points. Don't think Troys getting to the Cotton bowl, not that they aren't as deserving as Boise, WMU, Houston, but its all about selling tickets, and the Cotton Bowl officials are going to want teams that carry more of a national Name Brand. Not saying Troy fans wouldn't travel well, but their going to give Boise, for example, more of the benefit of the doubt than Troy.

Exactly. What a shocker, two good teams think they'll beat the other. Such disrespect.

Cotton Bowl doesn't get any say, they get the top ranked G5 champ by the playoff selection committee.

We're not playing a 6-6 MAC team in Montgomery. I wish App fans would stop saying this.

Well, I'm not too interested in playing a 7-5 or 8-4 MAC team in Montgomery either. WMU or Toledo in Mobile would be more than fine though.

Pretty much. Only way it changes is if you decide to lose to ULM and NMSU or something catastrophic.

We beat them like immigrant stepchildren. They didn't handle it well and got very chippy even though their coach said after the game he had a squad of saintly choirboys and Western had a squad of unrepentant sinners (those aren't his exact words but close enough.)
We literally could've put 90 on them but Brohm throttles back every second half when we're up big.
I think they've done one hella job as the season went on. But I don't think they are on Troy's level right now. I don't think for a minute it'd be anything like what Tech did to Arky State last year. Well maybe but with Troy playing the role of Tech.

Coming back to the topic at hand. Troy is a better team and is clear favorite if and when we play them but Monarchs are also improved as the year progressed so we will see how that turns out on the field.

Had Troy won out, they could have complained about the matchup. But they didn't, they lost to stAte and lost the right to moan about whoever they end up with in a bowl. That's the way this all works at this level. The SBc is getting better, but it isn't a one season fix, it takes time. Each year gets just a little better, but as a conference, we still aren't there yet.

Well it ain't going to be Troy now! Boise more than likely, but Houston might leapfrog Boise after the win last night

Houston can't be their league champ unless Navy losses twice I believe. A likely win over ECU this weekend seals the Western division for them.

Yeah, Houston is ineligible. Boise also needs Wyoming to lose to San Diego State this week just to make their title game. If that happens, they'll then have to beat SDSU themselves.
Otherwise, Western Michigan is going to get the spot.
