Wonder if something happened post game, behind closed doors that made this move happen. Even if they were going to fire him, you would have thought he had earned the right to get to the end of the season. If just off of last years performance alone.

Should go after Rhett Lashlee. In Georgia brings memories of Gone with the Wind. Not Butler but still so southern sounding. A natural for Atlanta.

Might as well make it 2 coaches fired.

It is getting ugly in Statesboro. I still think Summers is back next year but pressure is being applied to fire him and his staff after 1 year.

How long was Miles at GaSt -- 3-4 years?

He wasn't a terrible coach. He really moved Ga State forward. Ga St wasn't that bad this year, just wasn't winning. Understand why they moved, but wish they hadn't moved until the end of the season.

I hate it for the family but it was time. I saw the man after the Troy game walk off by himself and sit on the steps behind the field house. I'm not here to beat the man for feeling down or pensive but he looked absolutely dejected. I've never seen that dynamic out of a coach honestly, at any level. You have to be the face and you have to rally the troops come hell or high water. Maybe he saw the writing on the wall then or maybe his heart wasn't in it, but I'm just glad that the folks making the decisions decided not to ignore the obvious and make the change. Leaving with a 1/4 million dollars "dear john" check is extremely fair as well.
Hopefully DC Jesse Minter gets the call for the next 2 games.

When Fran left our field last year after we beat Texas State he looked like that. He had no business trying to coach that team again. Steve Roberts was starting to look that way before we finally let him go. Totally clueless at what to do.

Fran deserved it for his time and the way he left Alabama. Yes, at the time Bama was my team. But he did them and the players wrong. A local sports talk show has the expression of "Franning it up" and it deals with coaches that are going to leave for another team and essentially stops coaching their current team, example is Houston this season.

Final? You are putting to much money in the program with a stadium rebuild to believe that.

It has happened before.

UTA built a new stadium in 1980, hired a new coach in 1984 with a three-year plan for success, then pulled the plug at the end of 1985. In 1986, there would have been 11 offensive starters, 8 defensive starters and both kickers back from a team that missed an SLC championship by seven points over three games.

Here's some coaching search tips G-State fans.

Cobb will zero in on an early candidate. He will fall in love with this candidate. He'll offer this candidate the job. The candidate could accept and there will be a presser 2 days later. But he could say no. Cobb will offer him again. And again. Only if the candidate publicly turns down the job will Cobb begrudgingly move on. Then he'll probably make a good hire when forced to.

Also, Cobb has a tendency to give out hints to who he wants for the job when discussion why the previous hire didn't work out.

Many years ago I had ran into Jim Caldwell when he was near the end at Wake Forest. He and his wife were waiting for a table after yet another beat down. I told my wife that "was the saddest looking person I've ever seen".

You can bet the farm Cobb has already been in touch with him. He wanted Elliot for the App job but Shawn was making too much $ at USC. I'm actually glad it turned out the way it has.

I wonder seriously if they did this with a corner of an eye on the coaching situation in Statesboro. Both fans are frustrated to no end, why not anger Eagles fans more by being the first to make a move.

Why would that bother GS fans. GSU has a very good reason to make a move just on what Miles has done without taking into account anything outside of the program. Got a new stadium to start playing in next year...perfect time to give a new guy( optimism) an all new start.

Because Georgia Southern fans want Tyson Summers out six weeks ago.

FIFY...

Shawn Elliot to Georgia State is worst case scenario for both GS and APP.

The $64K question is does GA So have the cash to buy him out AND pay a new HC?

There's 2 coaches I don't want to see with a Georgia State headset on:

1. Jamey Chadwell
2. Russ Huesman

I predict State will go with one of Tommy Tubberville, Les Miles, Brian Kelly, or Charlie Strong depending on who is available. None of those guys except for maybe Brian Kelly will win there.

Thoughts on Jamey Chadwell from Charleston Southern?
