Question about Obama campaigning for Hillary
Has a sitting President EVER campaigned more for a Presidential candidate? Why are my tax dollars being spent to fly Obama and his wife all over the country to campaign for someone?

Just a heads-up, there's a politics forum so this will be moved.

My bad! Totally wrong forum. I do hope this is moved soon. Kinda like sending ballots to the wrong place and hope they get buried.

No idea.

Certainly the most in my lifetime, by far.

RE: Question about Obama campaigning for Hillary
President Obama hasn't done a ton really. I suspect he wants to preserve his legacy more by electing Clinton than by electing Trump, but deep down, he's not a major Clinton fan.

As far as recent presidents go, most outgoing ones haven't done a ton of campaigning in recent memory. But there are good reasons for that. LBJ withdrew from politics in 1968 so he wasn't going to do much for Humphrey. Nixon had resigned and also was in private hiding mostly in 1976 for Ford. Reagan's health in 1988 wasn't amazing so he didn't do much for Bush. Don't know what happened in 2000 but it's possible Clinton and Gore had a falling out and Gore didn't want Clinton's help (stupid move if that was the case). And Bush in 2008 also had enough of Washington and wasn't too gung ho over McCain.

So it's not like any of those cases are similar to this year when Obama is young and healthy enough to do the stumping. And plus this is the first time in a long, long time that the outgoing president is more popular than his replacement choices.

Gore didn't want Clinton's help because Clinton was toxic. He had just spent years trying not to get fired for perjury.

BoBo only does one thing well. Campaign speeches.

Been wondering about this for a while, and why it isn't a bigger story. I'd feel the same way if it were a Republican in office.

Like Trump says, "Shouldn't you be working?"

That is simply not true. This happens all the time. Why do people continually make up history as they go? There is nothing remotely unusual at all about a sitting president campaigning for his party.

In this case, he's really doing it for down ballot candidates as she is almost certainly going to win the presidential election.

Give me a break. He's freaking out and practically to the point of begging people to go vote for Hillary.

This!!!!!

It's a sign that Obama is a damn good president if he's one of the few recent examples of a POTUS campaigning aggressively. A POTUS can only do it if he's popular enough. Bush 2, Clinton, Ford, Nixon, & LBJ did not fit that bill. Carter and Bush 1 had the stain of being single term presidents an Reagan was healthy.

I'd say FDR was more than ill. He had been dead for over 3 years when Truman ran for President in 1948 (Truman had been VP for 82 days when FDR died and Truman became President). And this is certainly nit-picking but FDR was never a standing president.

FDR couldn't stump for Truman because he was deceased.

I'm assuming the Clinton campaign has to reimburse the taxpayers for this.

In 1988 Reagan was in Ohio a lot for Bush. I went to see him at the Wood County Court house. I'll see if I can find dates. It might be the state you live in but I don't see any of this out of the ordinary.
