Harvard suspends remainder of men's soccer season for rating women
http://www.espn.com/college-sports/story...women-team

Basically the Harvard men's soccer team has been rating the women's soccer teams on looks the last 4-5 seasons, and the athletic administration has decided to end their current season. They were in 1st place in the Ivy League and on track for an automatic NCAA tournament bid. But no longer, now their season is over.

Funny, Trump rates women and he's on the verge of being elected President. But then again, he didn't go to Harvard.

When the Ivy League participates in the FCS playoffs, then they can be noticed.

As John F. Kennedy (Harvard B.A., class of 1940) supposedly said, "Life isn't fair."

One can only imagine his private reaction if he were told about this.

Surely you can see how rating women in a beauty pageant (where the whole point is to be judged on looks) is not the same as rating girls who have not asked to be rated.

Yeah these guys got off easy. They should have been charged with sexual assault, as outlined in the "Dear Colleague" letters, and expelled.

What a bunch of squares. Imagine Karen Owen coming up there to show the Crimson how it is done. 04-cheers
Quote:Shortly before graduating from Duke University in May 2010, Karen Owen wrote a thesis styled document about her sexual experiences during her time attending the university. She privately distributed the document to three friends. In mid-September 2010, during Homecoming weekend, one of these friends decided to forward it onward, and the document went viral.[1][2] In the faux thesis, titled "An education beyond the classroom: excelling in the realm of horizontal academics", Owen ranked her partners based on her criteria for performance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Duke_...ontroversy

"University President Drew Faust said in a statement that she "was deeply distressed to learn that the appalling actions of the 2012 men's soccer team were not isolated to one year or the actions of a few individuals."

(In related news they ranked Faust a -1.)

No one is shocked that college aged guys act like this. The problem is they did this list online and it got out. It's a shame that their season is lost but it's their own fault. Lesson learned.

I don't think this has anything to do with the "emasculation of the American male". People just need to use some common sense.

I go out drinking with some coworkers pretty regularly. We talk **** and say all kinds of stuff that wouldn't be appropriate in the office. Just "boys being boys". If I say the same things in a company email, and that email gets out and offends some people, I would (and should) lose my job. Same situation here.

True. But remember: there have been so many examples of the idiocy over the past couple of generations, I'm kind of to the point where I'd say anyone who goes to a place like that deserves what they get. Or at the very least: they can't say they weren't warned.

I remember a friend of mine making a similar argument when Duke U. tried to railroad those lacrosse players a few years ago. (Paraphrasing: "I get it. Athletic scholarship to a prestigious school. But still, you're surrounded by people who hate you from the moment you set foot on campus. Is it really worth it?").

At this point, it is a requirement actually.

I think all women should have a public rating. Then more of tgem would take care of themselves, that I can tell you.

When I was in the Army the very few women in my unit all collaborated on a "hot list" and ranked the entire company based solely on looks.

No one got butthurt except the ugly folks.

The real question is:

Are there any college age males who don't do this?

The Harvard president is just waaaayyyy too old to be a college president.

A simple solution would be for Harvard to return to all male.

But how would you stop the gays from making lists?

My guess is the ratings ran the gamut from high to low......

RE: Harvard suspends remainder of men's soccer season for rating women
I haven't read the document, so I don't know what was exactly said.

But here's the big difference: saying that you'd have or would like to commit sexual assault against a woman, vs. just having an opinion about her appearance/personality/etc.

- first makes you a terrible person, exactly like when Trump said he has (and implied that he would continue to) grab women between their legs without permission
- second, I (or others) may not thing very highly of you, but everyone is allowed to have an opinion

If what they said was only opinions about them, and not commenting on things they'd like to do to them, then to me it seems like an open-shut case of first amendment violation.
