ROKU Streaming CAA
Hey, I guess I'm just getting old (Hey, get off my lawn!). I have no idea what ROKU is, but I'm sure the younger alums probably do. This is the latest release from the CAA. I thought I'd pass it along.

CAA ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF ROKU STREAMING CHANNEL

RICHMOND, Va. (November 2, 2016) – The Colonial Athletic Association, in partnership with Stretch Internet, is pleased to announce the development of the CAA.TV channel for the Roku platform.

The channel is currently available for download via the Roku Channel Store and features live and on-demand events from around the conference. The launch coincides with the start of CAA fall championships, the conclusion of the CAA Football regular season and the tip-off of men’s and women’s basketball season.

“The addition of a Roku channel is an exciting step in the growth and expansion of the conference’s digital network, CAA.TV,” said CAA Commissioner Joe D’Antonio. “Our institutions produce high-quality telecasts of hundreds of home events each year and the CAA.TV channel on the Roku platform will extend the reach of our programming to millions of viewers across the country. We appreciate the work of our partners at Stretch Internet in making this happen.”

“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with the CAA in the launch of their official Roku channel,” said Stretch Internet President and CEO Ryan Ermeling. “We really think fans of the participating schools are going to love the option to view crystal clear HD content on their TVs with just a couple clicks. This is the first of several steps to present live CAA programming to fans in more innovative and accessible ways. The CAA is looking to make big and bold moves to reach its audience, and we’re excited for what we’re going to accomplish together in the future."

CAA.TV features live events featuring a wide variety of sports from each of the CAA member institutions. The network provides coverage of all men’s and women’s basketball home games across the conference, action from many CAA championships and an array of feature stories and coaches shows.

Roku pioneered streaming for the TV and aspires to power every TV in the world. As of June 2016 the Roku OS powered TV streaming for 10+ million monthly active accounts. Roku is known for streaming innovation and high customer engagement, offering content providers and video advertisers the best way to reach streaming audiences. Roku customers streamed 4 billion hours of video and music in the first six months of 2016 as compared to 5.5 billion hours in all of 2015. Roku streaming players and Roku TV models are available in 10 countries through direct retail sales and licensing arrangements with TV OEMs and service operators.

In upcoming months, Stretch will continue to make enhancements to the CAA’s Roku channel while also working to develop apps for other over the top (OTT) platforms.

The Roku is a streaming media device, kind of like Apple TV. This is going to sound like a sales pitch because I've had a Roku for somewhere around 8-10 years, and I have more of them attached to TVs than cable boxes. If you watch Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, HBO Go, etc., this device streams it. Channels are basically "apps" for the device. You can get MLB.tv, NBA, and many other streaming sports packages there, too. It's a great way to watch sports on time delay, because most of the channels allow you to select a game without showing the current score/time/etc, and then you can pick up wherever you want. If you can convince DirectTV that you can't get a satellite signal, you can get Sunday Ticket over the Roku, too.

Don't act like it all makes sense now.

RE: ROKU Streaming CAA
OK, so does it cost me additional money to watch games?

I already have cable, and I have a tablet that can export HDMI to my TV to put web streams on the TV. Does Roku do something besides this?

Won't cost anything if you already have a ROKU. It just makes it easier and will have everything in one place. Whereas now you have to load it on the tablet and hook it up via a wireless connection or HDMI, the ROKU will just have it all there in one place.

This means zilch to me unless ROKU can resolve the buffering issue. I have zero difficulty streaming the game on my tv w Chromecast...its the constant buffering that kills Stretch.

Agree that it's great that there's a better platform to stream the games, but also agree that this doesn't fix the underlying issue of Stretch's inconsistency streaming games. I was honestly more shocked to learn in this thread that Stretch is an actual company with a leadership team. Given all my issues, I had assumed they were some CAA basement operation.

It sounds like the Roku channel will be free, but I wouldn't be surprised if half the reason is to get a better idea of viewership to see if there's money to be made.
