Good for him. UCONN could use a new offensive philosophy. I wish him success.

Perhaps a future candidate for Jimmye's successor?

Unless the timing becomes too late, and Corley is off to bigger and better things ala Tomlin. Otherwise, he'd be a great choice.

Is Tribe HC a step up from UConn OC?

I would doubt if it came with a pay raise.

Based off this (http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries.../assistant) UConn's assistants make just under 300k. Laycock makes less at 270k. If we want a guy, I would guess we could squeeze enough out of some boosters to pay 350k or so for a guy, so Tribe HC might be a slight upgrade over UConn OC/DC.

It's a step up in that it's a head coaching job. I assume Corley has career aspirations beyond what we can offer (though maybe he wants to be like Jimmye and others who coach the Alma Mater for their career). If he wants to move to FBS, I think head coach at an FCS school is a 2-3 year stepping stone.

When the time comes, how feasible is it to pay a new coach, who has as yet no head coaching experience, 25% more than your retiring coach, your all-time winningest coach?

Basketball has the same dilemma. Seems to me we need to be increasing the salaries of Laycock and Shaver now, so we can pay market rates for their replacements.

VT paid Justin Fuente more to start than Beamer ever got. Fuente had previous head coaching experience but I don't think that really matters a whole lot.

There's no reason to pay either one more now because there's no demand elsewhere for their services.

I'm hoping our next HC is a former Tribe player, proven winner at a higher level, has made a fortune over the past decade, wants to go home where he can spend more time with his family, and is content with coaching at W&M for the next 20 years.

If only someone fit that mold.

One Tribe. One Family.

Off the top of my head, there are at least two people who fit that mold. The school would be lucky to get either one.

For the ignorant,
who are the two that you are thinking about?

I can't imagine Tomlin or Sean coming back here. If that's what was hinted at.

RE: Corley promoted to OC a UConn.
I'm torn on this because on one hand it would be great to have someone who came through WM, and knows what we are all about. At the same time, there is benefit to having someone who is a bit younger that still has lots of energy for the recruiting game. The problem with young hot shots is they are always looking for the next move. Tony Shaver for basketball was a great fit in that he understood the way WM does things, and although he was younger had a track record of sticking around places.

Tomlin and Sean fit Tribal's "mold", and the Tribe would be lucky to get either one of them.

I don't think it's as far-fetched as you may think. I agree, not likely but not out of the realm. Tomlin is a strong family man who has made millions and may want to go home. He loves W&M and may find himself in a position where it's take the job now or never. He can't wait 30 years for the next JL to hang it up.

It would appeal to me.

One Tribe. One Family.

But I would assume he, also, feels alot of loyalty to the Rooney family and vice versa, for giving him the opportunity. They pick and stay with their HC for life.

The Steelers HC job is about as longterm as you can get in professional sports... would love it if Tomlin came here, but highly doubt it would happen.
