Has it occurred to you that should Oklahoma State's inclusion bring Oklahoma to the SEC that Texas would agree to, and then back out at the last second from any Big 10 deal? They know they are dead meat if they head North without Oklahoma, and that they are impaired if the head North and leave Aggie playing predominantly in the South.
It's the type of move they will go along with to bluff OU into pulling out of a deal with the SEC. If OU is stupid enough to fall for that trick twice (like with the PAC deal) then they deserve their fate. But I don't think that will happen. Like the bluff to add G5 schools such a move would be Texas just trying to force OU into recreating another Texas fiefdom in and around Texas.
The simple truth here is that if the SEC has Arkansas, L.S.U., Texas A&M and Oklahoma we have everything we want around Texas and in it market wise. The Horns know this. They won't leave Oklahoma in the next move if at all possible, especially to head North. But to spite the SEC they will try to rope OU in to leaving with them.
If ESPN and the SEC want to play this gambit out properly they will offer OSU contingent upon OU. Boren almost has to take that deal. Texas will bluff the Big 10 to torment Boren, but if OU is in the SEC Texas will do one of two things. They will either surround themselves with the other Texas schools and head to the PAC, or they will join the SEC as well, likely asking for one other Texas school. If that Texas school is Tech we may be in business.
Texahoma may wind up in the SEC West. Then if the ACC wants to handle Kansas, Iowa State, Cincinnati and Notre Dame what does that do to the Big 10 and FOX?
Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas, Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse
Boston College, Duke, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech
Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, N.C. State, Wake Forest
Your North should yield Louisville or Notre Dame most years with Syracuse and Cincinnati making runs from time to time.
North Carolina and Virginia Tech are set up in the Central with a run from Pitt from time to time.
The South gets the football first schools that sell their tickets and it would be a four and sometimes 5 school race with Clemson and F.S.U. predominating. It would likely be the division to produce the wild card as well.
You repay Delany for incursion into Maryland by moving into the Norther Midwest with Iowa State, Kansas, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and Louisville and of course Syracuse is a thumb in his eye along with the Irish already. The Big 10 now has to suffer what the SEC and ACC suffer already, Four split states and shared markets on his borders.
And, he's been shut out South of Iowa.
The SEC divisions then become very regional:
West: Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech
Central: Alabama, Auburn, L.S.U., Mississippi, Mississippi State, Texas A&M
East: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
When Dodds first shopped Texahoma to the ACC it went nowhere because of the inclusion of the Oklahoma schools (both were rejected by the ACC). Dodds then came back with Iowa State and Kansas and there was "some" interest, but by then A&M was ready to move on without Texas and the deal never went any further. I can imagine that the ACC would listen to the inclusion of those two, but I doubt the Irish would agree to that divisional set up.
X, at some point somebody somewhere is going to have to tell N.D. that's what we are offering take it our leave it. They aren't what they used to be, but they are still a brand that gains you bucks. And, their leverage shouldn't be anywhere near what they expect it to be, nor should we let them get away with it. They would have Syracuse and Cincinnati to meet their regional needs and Kansas would be a nice basketball rival in that division. They have two ACC Florida schools to schedule and they will be rotating games with the other two divisions. If they can't handle it tough!
I think it would be the trip to Ames, JR. Does anyone really know how to get there?
hey it's pretty easy to get to. Its right outside of Des Moines. Probably one of the easier cities to get to in the big 12.
I would suggest switching Louisville & Pitt to give ND another rival. Perhaps also switch BC & Cincinnati.
It would look like this instead.
BC, Iowa State, Kansas, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Syracuse
Cincinnati, Duke, North Carolina, Louisville, Virginia, Virginia Tech
Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, N.C. State, Wake Forest
