Thank you.

You're going to lower/cease to donate to Huskie athletics because some students protested during the national anthem?

I always get a kick out of white people trying to tell people what it's like to be black. Easily one of the most entertaining things you can witness. Anyway, carry on, tell me again why folks doing this peaceful protest bothers you?

I will tell you - I have no problem with it at all. I 100% support peaceful protest and letting all parts of the NIU Student community have a voice.

Exactly, everyone should feel this way. Even on a national level. Every American has the right to protest, and it doesn't have to be in a way that people see fit either.

Thank you for telling me how I should feel.

You're welcome massa. and I said SHOULD. You can feel however you want, but yes, the way you feel is wrong haha.

I get a bigger kick out of black people telling white people what it's like to be white...you know...the perpetual cake walk all whites call life due to their inherent privilege.

Racial prejudice is a universal presence that affects us all. You don't see that part do you? You know what it's like one week having three rounds go through your windshield trying to protect a black vagrant getting robbed at gun point by three killers and then have the media hypnotize everyone to justifiably calling you a racist solely based on your occupation. You ever do anything proactive to make a change apart from blogging? Here's a more pertinent question...what examples do you have of first hand racism? Those students protesting...have they ever had first hand experiences with racism? Or is this all coming from agenda driven media outlets? I was a whites kid born and raised to a lower middle class family in Humboldt park...if I didn't have athletics there was no chance I was able to afford a university education. Are the protesters' families able to at least afford some of that education? You don't call that black privilege do you?

Here's how his relates to NIU football. Let's remove some ignorance here brother. It doesn't matter if a group of students were at the game to protest socks...it's annoying, tolerable, but annoying. When I was recruited, Novak recruited primarily two types of kids. Inner city Chicago kids and country farm boys from Wi or Mn. Two very dramatically walks of life. Never once during my time was there any racial tension. When I think back about those two dynamics and how they meshed and combined culture it makes me want to go relive that experience.

Sports have always been a dramatic unifier. People go to games to enjoy the experience and get away from real life...not to see the focus based on trending political topics. Like it or not those types of things DO ABSOLUTELY increase racial tension.

With all that said I'm a big proponent of the first amendment and credit the students for conducting themselves in a completely respectable manner...not to mention staying for the game which does speak volumes to overall motivation. But people also have the right to be annoyed. I spoke with two former black players who attended the game and quite frankly they were pisses because they felt the focus of the game was lost. Sometimes people just want to leave world issues behind and unite under something they love.

And yes that pro black \= (does not) anti white poster was misleading initially but was ultimately incredibly insightful and culturally sensitive. Give her credit for that.

Well said (see bolded part above).

Let's keep in mind the students handled it peacefully and with class. Some people may disagree with the message of the students but that is what the first amendment is about - freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is even more valuable when you disagree with the message.

The students did not try to disrupt the game. They did not charge the field. They did not yell at the white students. They handled themselves with class and dignity even if you disagree with the message.

Suptroop - I can understand why you are frustrated that this protest occurred at the game. I agree it distracted from the unifying force of college athletics. However, I also appreciate that you respect their right to be there. You have a good balance and perspective on the event (IMHO).

These "you don't know what I've been through" stories, while Very impactful to the narrator, mean zero to the actual state of race relations in the country. you can be the biggest victim of reverse discrimination on the planet, but that doesn't mean oppression to others doesn't exist.
Let's face it, white people cant talk about the black experience, and black people cant talk about the white experience. We know racism exists and goes both ways. Oppression doesn't.
These kids protesting could be trust fund babies, doesn't matter. What you've been through is not a reflection of the real world. It's just your world. People
Who can see beyond their own world will be open to many more opportunities.

"As a result, we may occasionally be pushed outside of our comfort zones and forced to confront views and ideas with which we disagree. However, that is a small price to pay to preserve an environment in which differences can be explored, ideas challenged and society advanced. Encouraging and supporting the free exchange of all ideas on campus enhances the education of our students. It provides opportunities to practice forming coherent arguments and to hone communication skills. It also compels individuals to listen to, examine and respond to a diversity of opinions. Ultimately, it better equips our students to succeed after graduation and makes all of us better informed citizens ready to engage in the improvement of society." - Dr Baker

For me personally, Black Lives Matter is more of a threat to me than ISIS on a day to day basis. I've had members of Black Lives Matter threaten me. I've yet to encounter someone from ISIS.

01-rivals

That is BS that you have either fallen for, or you are complicit in trying to fool everyone else into believing. BLM wants to use the threat of mob violence to create a Ferguson effect, where police are hesitant to prosecute black offenders for fear being dragged through the media gauntlet and instigating the next BLM protest and riot. The BLM movement is funded by billionaire global agitator George Soros, and fueled by our Leftist president, who wants to use the chaos to create his Marxist dream of a nationalized police force. The last thing BLM cares about are black lives.
