RE: Unofficial 2016 Bowl Musing Thread
Regarding bowl payouts, it would be great if WMU made a NY6 bowl because then the conference gets money. What often happens is a team goes across the country to a scrub bowl game and the payout is only $750,000 and you end up losing money. Happened to CMU like 3 bowl games in a row. It's best when teams can get a close bowl game (barely are any) or teams can also go to better bowl games with higher payouts.

When NIU went to the Orange Bowl, I want to say the payout was something like $10 million so each team basically got a million.

Thanks!

The reason the MAC can get all of these bowl games is NOT because 10K fans will flock to Alabama, or Idaho or Bahamas, etc. but because the MAC guarantees the bowl ticket sales.

Kind of like we'll give you (the MAC) 750K in bowl payout if you'll buy 500K in tickets... 03-lmfao

So essentially the MAC gets enough money to (barely?) cover expenses.

I think our dream scenario is the Quick Lane Bowl. I know the MAC technically doesn't have a tie-in, but they could make something work if there aren't enough eligible ACC or B1G teams. Even EMU, with all of our attendance woes, would be a better local draw than any mediocre ACC team.

Sir, I think you are on to something.

I'd think we, WMU, Toledo, and maybe even CMU would be interested.

I haven't gotten too deep in the weeds, but ACC may have a hard time filling all of their slots. Clemson looks like a CFP team. L'ville is also a very good team.

So a top MAC vs. middle B1G team would be a good draw. The bowl shake out after the conference championship games should be fun...

So if anyone in the MAC upsets WMU then the entire conference, including the school that beat WMU, loses $.

I forgot which it was, but one of the bowl projections had us there against Northwestern. That would be perfect. A B1G team that likely wouldn't embarrass us, and an easy payout for us that all the locals would see. I know I'd be there for sure. Much easier than flying to Boise or Alabama.

Also, CMU played in it last year, so it's obviously in the realm of possibility for us.

CBS, if it was the Quick Lane I'd be going for sure.

I mean, unless there is some fuckery afoot and WMU gets hosed, then yeah basically. I can't stand NIU either but when they were on a roll in 2012 I had no choice but to root for them to make the Orange Bowl, same for Kent State.

Here is an article about what we are talking about with the money payout: http://www.daily-chronicle.com/2013/04/2...p/a75dron/

Basically, with NIU at least, the MAC gave NIU money to cover all of the expenses like travel, hotel, ticket sales, etc. But when you make a BCS game you get a share of the revenue which is big. The revenue gets distributed throughout the conference but the team that went gets the most of it. The BCS revenue was $8 million and NIU got 1.3 mil of it. From what I remember, the remaining schools got a portion of it evenly. So I think the schools got like $600K each.

Heres a link to the bowl payouts. If the amounts are correct, then MAC teams are lucky to get $750k. Time to move some bowls to midwestern domes.

And sadly that doesn't cover anything. So if a MAC team travels to the Cameilla Bowl in Bama, they will lose money.

Then why go unless the mac makes up the losses? That 100k is a joke

One of the main reasons coaches seek bowl eligibility, is the extra 2-4 weeks of practice time they get vs. non-bowl programs.

I believe Army is one of the bowl teams for the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.

I have my doubts if they'll make it. They have two FCS games and must have 6 wins (only one can be a FCS win) before the Army/Navy game.

San Diego would be a nice venue...

No kidding. It is entirely possible the EMU could lose all three of their remaining games. None of them are sure bets, so the team better be focused.
