Hope none of you ever have to deal with the type of misfortunes that have fallen upon some of our fans. I felt pretty good chipping in $100 for the Louisiana Flood Relief collection that Georgia Southern did a few weeks ago ... and did so never knowing this was around the corner for our University and region.

22 years ago, I was in the National Guard and was activated for a historic flood in Macon, Georgia for 37 days. Our water treatment plant was over run by the Ocmulgee River (which also covered I-75 and I-16 for parts of 10 days). We had deaths, and misery caused by that and I will NEVER forget how just a simple thought of helping a neighbor was truly valued. I distributed water to the public for 37 days in a row, 9 hrs a day and worked AT night at the hospital .. even though I was activated and supposed to be 'off'.

I realize some folks live in their own little bubble and really don't care for anyone than themselves, but there are folks hurting tonight all across the eastern seaboard.

This time, I'm not personally affected though I do have many friends who have been and will be affected by this.

It is looking like some areas will be without power for some time.

I was on a communications crew and we were always activated for the north Georgia ice storms to do work. Everyone whose power we hooked back up was appreciative. Cleared a lot of trees and got very proficient at stringing cable, even though we weren't the ones making the lines hot.

I also did tower work rebuilding VHF antennas in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Hugo hit and devastated the island.

Most folks appreciate and respect the challenges folks face after events such as a tornado, hurricane or other natural disaster.
