RE: Trump pulls further ahead of Clinton in overnight polling
(10-09-2016 10:31 AM)Tom in Lazybrook Wrote:  There are so many things that, from a structual perspective, contributed to DJT, on the GOP side. Some of those things have fixes.

Here's what I would do if I'm the GOP to try and stop something like this from happening next time

1) Ditch all caucuses (both parties should do this). Caucuses reward party bases extraproportionally. General elections aren't won by party activists and highly motivated voters. They're won by the middle. The vast majority of swing voters don't participate in caucuses.

2) Citizens United helps the GOP in non-Presidential races. But just kills them in the Presidency. It contributes to a GOP clown car primary, where billionaires have 'pet candidates' who have no real support and zero chance of getting elected, spend the primary season beating up candidates that have a better chance of winning the general. The good news is that Citizens United was decided 5-4. If HRC gets elected and replaces Scalia, they'll be able to hopefully get that reversed, so that the candidates need more than the support of the Mercers, the Kochs, Foster Friess, or Sheldon Adelson to run in the campaign.

3) The GOP needs to seriously evaluate changing the primary calendar. Smart move would be to make swing states go first, because that's where elections are decided.

4) The GOP base needs to stop with this RINO bs. All RINO means is...."doing what is needed to win elections". For the far right, better is the mortal enemy of perfect. In other words, if the candidate isn't perfect, they're the enemy.

5) Learn how to count. You cannot win an election if you p'ss off minorities and women. The GOP needs to educate its base about the importance of voting for candidates that can actually win general elections. And there's a bigger danger here. The GOP's behavior towards Mexican Americans, LGBT persons, and African Americans threatens to bake in animosity, which could cause the GOP to lose elections even after they start changing.

6) You WANT your candidates facing hostile vetting in the early primary season. It helps vet them so that things don't blow up in the general election. GOP voters would be smart to see the left leaning (supposedly) moderators in early primaries as helping the GOP in the general. I'd also pass a rule requiring all candidates for the Presidential primary to release their full financial records as a condition of ballot access.

7) Understand that the Dems have a game plan. And the GOP keeps playing right into it.

---

If HRC wins this election, that will mean that the GOP has gained more votes for President than the Dems exactly ONCE since 1988. This isn't a one time fluke. This is structural.

1. Caucuses are where Trump was largely defeated.

2. All the money was against him.

3. Aside from Ohio, Trump won all the swing states.

4. Who won?

5. He is doing better among minorities than McCain and Romney.

6. Trump released his financial records.

7. Yes, democrats are good at manipulation. Good point.

This "treason" lie is the best they can come up with, on short notice.

Yea, that #winning smell is actually pretty sweet. You should try it.

Every time Hillary thinks she has it in the bag is when she becomes most vulnerable. Take a look at MUH NATE's projections. Every time she hits 80%, she collapses (both figuratively and literally) over the next 30 days. We saw it happen time and time again in the primaries against the Bern, as well.
