Good for Ron’Dell, but it’s a head scratcher why one of those 25 teams just didn’t draft him. Ron’Dell got the money, but I hope he uses the snub of not to getting drafted to earn a spot on the Cowboy’s roster. Wouldn’t that be a hoot to have two Dukes on playing for the Pokes?

In 2019, the highest paid Patriots UDFA was signed for $115,000 - so this was a really good deal, especially when guaranteed. Some UDFA make as little as $17k. If he makes the roster, the salary will go way up, often $500-800k range.

Congrats to RC - he put in the hard work, gave his best, and it is paying off. Now go win a spot on the team!

Surprised Dylan Stapleton was chosen over brother Riley. Guess he's more of a true NFL type tight end and blocker. Hope Riley gets a shot somewhere. Otherwise, pretty impressive showing by the Dukes.

Riley's off the field issues and suspension this year likely cost him a shot. Teams tend to overlook it more easily if a player from a P5 school gets in trouble but a player from the FCS is not worth the trouble of having to explain why you have have a player with a sexual misconduct background on your team

Perhaps. I think it has more to do with NFL measurables...like Riley’s speed and route running.

I think in normal years with rookie camps running right after the draft he’d be in one right now with a chance at a contract. Also think he’s kind of stuck in between WR and TE, great size for a WR but not enough quickness, good agility for a TE but not enough size/toughness.

I'm guessing a bit of both. My guess would be he'll make a practice squad as a solid receiver/quicker TE. Then hopefully if he decides to stick with it he'll get some guidance from his coaches...who I would imagine would push him down the TE route and get him to put on weight. The good thing for him is that pass catching TEs are popular right now. Then if he continues to improve his blocking and route running, plus puts on some bulk, in a few years when people forget about his off-the-field issues he'll possibly get his chance to make a team.

I hope so. I agree he has the same basic skill-set as Brown, but Brown played some TE at JMU, and is heavier in a frame of the same height. Hopefully Riley can secure a late UDFA contract or invitation to a rookie camp, but with this damn virus who knows how that will impact rookie training camp opportunities.

i think brown put on weight when he got to the nfl. their senior year sizes are almost identical

Brown was listed as 6'5" 225 as a Senior and Stapleton 6'5" 230. Brown has added size and weight through the years in the NFL.
