Didn't you hear? Karl actually has 12 fingers so the math would be easier for him...

Guess he has his golf gloves custom made.

I won't sell him short; he might be very skilled with a sewing machine.

I say stay small. fewer mouths to feed. few people outside our own schools fan bases take much notice of what goes on in the belt. having a small tight knit conference gives our teams a chance to play a game or two more against outsiders that may carry a more national following. with more national attention on our teams and some wins in those games our credibility will rise. we would be in a position to be choosey about who we let in.

We should not add anybody if we dont have to now. All it will do is cost each team money. No team in the FCS or CUSA is going to add anything but another mouth to feed from TV and payout money.

Question, Sun Belt fans, will your conference be splitting up into divisions to determine your champ game participants or going to a 9 game schedule. Thanks.

Ten looks to work fine as long as Championship Game is allowed at that number. Just have to wait and see what happens with the Big 12. IF CUSA loses one I would expect JMU to jump. Hopefully no one in the Belt would make the jump if offered and we can ride this 10 member conference for a while and give Coastal, App and GS time to develop further rivalries. I do expect pretty good rivalries could develop between App/GS and Coastal, Troy and GSU within the Eastern division given a little time.

Stay with 10 max. Only look for other teams if we get raided by another conference. Might be wishful thinking but no more FCS schools even if our membership drops below 10. Maybe UTA & UALR will step up and add football.

This really seems like the best position to take at the moment. Maybe keeping NMSU in mind if UTA or Little Rock add football and balance is needed. (Of course, I know the ideal situation for NMSU is to not be available should the Belt need them to "fill in"...)

so we get crowds of 25,000+ as an FCS school, but some of you wouldn't add JMU because we are a FBS "start up"?

that kind of talk reminds me of CUSA when they added schools based on "market". How's that working out for them?

Haven't you learned anything from App St and Ga Southern?

and to say JMU felt it was "too good" for the Sun Belt is just not accurate. Our administration had valid reasons for saying no. They are not reasons our fans and alum agreed with, but it is what it is.

I suspect now, with NMSU and Idaho out and CCU coming in, should the Sun Belt approach JMU about adding us and Eastern Kentucky, you all would get a different answer as the circumstances will have changed and the conference makeup will alleviate those valid reasons our admin had for saying no a few years ago.

but now you have indicated you guys are content at 10. Which is totally a valid and acceptable position.

but i still laugh at those who think adding JMU would not help the SB. It most certainly would.

I don't see the Belt's need for adding 2 teams and I definitely don't see 2 being from the East. In your scenario, if JMU were to get an invite it's because the western members got a team they wanted (see: NMSU, UALR, UTA or Mizz St.).

USA would certainly endorse adding at least 1 team from the East...so we can go West. I don't think stAte really wants to get cut off from USA and Troy either (they'd prefer one team - especially USA, to stay with them in the West for recruiting purposes).

I do think that TWO teams from the East is out of the question.

Nothing against JMU's fans but I really hope we stay put for now and then in a few years add two in the west. The east has great geography now with App, Coastal, GSU, GS, Troy and USA. The west has ULM, ULL, Texas St and stAte so adding two in the west makes the most sense to me. To me Little Rock probably will never add football and fall behind because of that eventuality moving to a basketball league. With that hopefully UTA will add football rounding out Texas and then we only have to add one in the West.

Bingo! We have a winner! If we add any football team to the sunbelt it needs to be UTA and/or Little Rock and if Southern Miss had any common sense they would jump ship from CUSA to the Sunbelt. No FCS schools!

JMU is a top five candidate FCS wise. It makes absolutely zero sense for the Belt to go beyond 10 for any reason. We get a set amount from TV and playoffs unless a P5 is going to join the Belt no team in CUSA or the FCS is going to raise what we get in a TV contract. Nor is any team going to excite the fan base much either.

I would rather GS get 1M for the playoff payout rather than 833K and split the ESPN money 10 ways rather than 12. I also dont want a 9 game conf schedule either. I like having four OOC games for now.

I think JMU would be a good add, if we needed one. And if they wanted to join.

But we don't need anyone right now and they don't want to join. So no dice.

If the Big XII doesn't expand, I say hold at 10.

JMU administrators kinda insulted the Belt with the academic fit answer.
It was pretty stupid to openly invite JMU without knowing the answer.
I don't see how kicking out the top academic schools helps the problem JMU has with the conference.

Then they should remain FCS and quit pining for CUSA, or any other FBS conference for that matter . .

After kicking two members to the curb, does anyone else see the irony in a thread that proposes to add two new members . . . . 07-coffee3
