Negative.
Shoop's golden year in 2009 we went two-deep at every position with starting-caliber players. DL had 10 contributors at the start of the season. After injuries to O'Brien, Pradhanang, and Robertson, we still had 6-7 defensive lineman who were arguably equal to anyone on our current roster.
We had six good linebackers; the second string included two future all-conference players. (Mines and Cook). Injuries derailed Dante's career but he could have been one of the best linebackers we ever had.
That 2009 defense turned out five NFL players: Tracy, Lissemore, Webb, Couplin, and Caldwell. Couplin was redshirted. Very rare for an FCS program to do that.
That team was two plays: bad coverage on a fake punt, and a bad call on a deep throw by Villanova - from a national title. Some more aggressive play calling would have helped.
Now it is true that Shoop may have been better at developing the players who took the field, but I think the raw material in his final two years was pretty special.
2010 was not quite as strong, but still was very good. Pradhanang's injuries were a big factor.
Since then we haven't had the same success. I think the closest we came was the three-game stretch in 2013.
