Typical reply from someone who KNOWS they are dead wrong. Carolina went to the WS 4 years in a row and could be in the middle of a dynasty and you think they suck.

Never said they suck. Just that they're no longer an automatic top 10 program like you say, because a google search told you so. They're still the top program in the state, but that doesn't make them a powerhouse like they used to be. Maybe they can finish above .500 in the ACC this year and you can come back to me. Until then, the 12 programs I listed are all in better shape right now.

I will take the experts opinion on this one and let you think that you are right. Just because you hate Carolina for some reason has removed you from serious discussion with anything that has to do with UNC.
Bottom line is that UNCW is lucky UNC play them and it benefits UNCW way more than Carolina. They could easily duck UNCW altogether and it would have an impact on UNCW while most likely not affecting them at all.
UNCW has a long ways to go to catch programs like Carolina. I doubt they ever get there-money is just not there.

RE: 2017 baseball schedule
I want to say this without digressing into a conversation about loyalty. I feel like I can be reasonable about Carolina without inherent contempt for UNC. Carolina is not in the middle of a dynasty. My perception is that their dynastic run ended in 2013, but there is hope that Rob Woodard’s return will pay dividends. I think it will, but I don’t consider them a top 10 program right now. Mike Fox is a great coach, but within the ACC you have to give the current program edge to UVA. They’ve been consistently good, and perhaps Carolina’s biggest rival during Fox’s run, but they were able to close out a championship and Carolina didn’t. That leaves Carolina in a competition with Miami, FSU and Louisville as a top-tier program. Carolina belongs, but I can’t say with any confidence Carolina is a better program (has a brighter future).

Carolina doesn’t need to play UNCW, but they do benefit from playing high level competition mid-week. UNCW might need to play UNC slightly more, but there are plenty of quality teams on our schedule. We have opportunities against Coastal, NCSU and ECU, all tournament teams. I hope CCU’s championship will be a positive for our program moving forward, and will give the committee reason to give us a fair shot over those ACC teams that finish 7-9 within the league. I truly believe UNCW can do something special on the diamond. CCU athletic department has grown in ways UNCW should’ve over the past 15 years. We’re not on the same level today, but their success gives me hope that UNCW can win a national championship in baseball.

It's all about the Benjamins. Read an article that put UNCW not far behind UNC. It raved about how much Scalf had done with 62% less funding. Hopefully that problem is at least starting to be resolved.

You could argue that Carolina is the most important team they play every year. It is by FAR the biggest draw here for UNCW baseball, bringing fans who would never see UNCW play if not for Carolina. It brings interest to the program, money and bragging rights if you beat them. Granted the last 2 years UNCW has been right there with them but that is not the case for the most part. The number one thing holding UNCW back is money and Carolina is dripping in cash and they bring it with them when they show up here to play. I go to games a lot here but have plenty of friends who only go to the Carolina game but they spend money and a certain percentage of people will become fans just by attending one game.
The stadium is a major problem for UNCW and to take the big step forward it has be upgraded in a major way. They are light years behind in facilities with programs that they can compete with on the field at times. They could be on a level with them if they can get the money deal even close to what other schools have to work with.

Facilities is a different argument. I was speaking in terms of competitiveness on the field.

I get it but it is a program first and results follow. I think to get to the next level it is a quantum leap for UNCW. They can't host a regional even if the HB2 crap is resolved-facilities are not even close to being worthy.
