Wow.

At first he is sitting on the sideline without his helmet, but no obvious pain and now he out for the year... :(

As I have previously posted, Shaq has already burned his redshirt year. So this season for him is one game + one carry in the 2nd game.

This is the PROBLEM with redshirt years in football: Injuries happen. Using a redshirt to develop a freshman or because of too much depth at a position sounds good, but IF an injury happens later it means a lost season.

This isn't as much a problem in MBB as major injuries aren't as common as in FB.

Great point. Honestly, they need to burn Willie Parker's redshirt right now and start getting him some reps. He is easily the most explosive and toughest runner left on the roster to join Eriksen in the backfield. This staff/program has no time for redshirts.

........sure, makes a lot of sense. And you actually took the time to visit our board and drop that brilliant assessment?

Thanks so much George.
EMU beat an FCS team, and Charlotte who is essentially FCS ...

Ah yes, couldn't help but somehow try to diminish EMU's road win over an FBS team, could you? Just like you had to crap all over EMU's win over MVSU. No, can't let long-suffering EMU fans feel too good on occasion, can we? That would just screw up the narrative. Just can't help yourself? Please, take this nonsense back to the CMU board where you can enjoy the camaraderie of the amen corner of EMU bashers.

Two-deep for defense still the same - so that's good.

Key for Friday is to stop Wyoming's ground game, or at least manage it somewhat - if they get an other 200+ yards I doubt we can overcome. Can't count on 3rd string QB this time.

We keep up the offensive output and win a close one - 45-41. As always take the over...

He will almost certainly qualify for a 6th year. The question will be if he wants it or not.

Here is what I found in Wikipedia. I'll try to search the NCAA site.

"On rare occasions, players may be allowed to play in their sixth year of college—if they suffered a serious injury that kept them from playing for more than one season. Former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Jason White is perhaps the best known example of this, as he had redshirted his freshman year, then subsequently tore the ACL in both knees, causing him to miss nearly two years of eligible playing time. A more recent example is former Houston Cougars quarterback Case Keenum. His story is similar to that of White; Keenum redshirted his freshman year of 2006, and then tore an ACL three games into the 2010 season, which would have otherwise been his final year of eligibility."

Didn't he deal with an injury his 1st year here? Maybe that could be re-classified as a medical redshirt? Just spitballin' here.....

According to the interwebs:

Athletes must keep in mind both the five-year clock and their four seasons of competition. Even if an athlete gets a medical hardship waiver, he or she needs to have time left on their five-year clock (10-semester/15-quarter clock in Divisions II and III) to use that season.

This is problematic for athletes took a normal redshirt season or sat out due to a transfer. An athlete can generally not use a medical redshirt in those cases unless they get a clock extension or sixth year waiver. To do that the athlete show they lost two seasons outside of his or her control. The medical redshirt would be one, but the athlete would still need to show another.

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Here is a good discussion from a better source.

See section on medical redshirts and the five year clock...

RE: Wyoming Cowboys
I honestly have NO idea if he was injured his first season. I can check the EMU website for his 2014 season notes.

"2014: One of the 2014 recruits who sat out the season as a redshirt with freshman eligibility in 2015.."

I see no indications that it was a medical redshirt.

Check the website. You'll find the press release for the game on Friday. Open that link and with in there you'll see another link for the game notes.

RE: Wyoming Cowboys
Some really good stats after 3 games, that need to continue:

Zero fumbles
51% 3rd down conversion, 23/45
17/18 red zone scoring, 13 TD's
9 different players caught a pass against Charlotte, very few drops on the season.
Defense created 3 more turnovers, 7 tackles for loss.

Only real issue was too many penalties.

Overall, so far, there seems to be much better execution, focus, and attention to detail.

Need to see this continue on Friday, and take 1 more positive step forward. Lot's of young guys and new faces gaining really valuable experience.

Other than the damn injuries, everything improved over last year.

Got it, Thanks Nickle! 04-cheers

Unfortunately Huron Boy, there are at least 2 guys on that list that left the game and did not return. Fortunately, we have a little depth this year, and their backups came in and did a good job. Since we never get any injury reports, I won't speculate, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a shuffled starting lineup again. We have really been rotating a lot of guys in, so not a major impact one way or the other.

Would be nice to see the young corners get some additional reps in this last non-conference game. Pace is obviously the 'wise old veteran' back there, but he also gave up the TD pass. Lots of DL, LB, and Safety rotations, which has been great by the staff.

Dear EagleTough,
I will be going to the coaches luncheon Wednesday, and I'll try to find out about any injuries. In the past, Coach Creighton has been mum about injuries, and I can understand some of that stance, but I will see what I can find out.

RE: Wyoming Cowboys
They said at the Charlotte game that Browning at TE was injured and this week it appears he still is he's listed behind Buschman and Kilby. I don't know what Thorton did to get suspended but he's now listed 3rd at C behind Hurcombe and Tallman. Wonder if he's done for the year? Ross Williams is listed at starting but he was injured at Charlotte and may be MIA for the Wyoming game.

I praised the staff's recruiting of the 3 JUCO WRs but failed to mentioned they did a good evaluating Todd Porter who had one other FBS offers. I don't believe any of the 3 JUCO WRs was widely recruited by other FBS schools.
All four of these players can play at the FBS level and hold their own.

Haven't seen JUCOs DB Robinson, LB Valesquez and or WR Jaron Johnson, wonder if these guys were full qualifiers out of high school and are being redshirted this year? Unless injuries dictate otherwise redshirting to me is a sign of a positive program. I'd like to see Parker hit the field because as I've previously said given Ian's injury history I'd to see more RB in the rotation.

McGill, Phelps and Calhoun are all true frosh DBs. They are learning under fire but I like their potential.

Shout out to Fricano for being West special team player for the second time this year. Keep being solid.

I wonder if we'll see more of Breck Turner this week?

I saw a run or two which I thought showed potential.

And tell me more about Willie Parker? How much potential?

Actually was a member of the 2015 class but greyshirted and enrolled in this past winter, didn't see him in the spring game due to injury.

Two star out of high school, don't know what other offers he had. I thought he was a steal when he signed with us. Here is his bio which is pretty impressive:

Good quicks and can really hit the hole quickly.

Could be a dangerous RB.

I'd like to see them take the redshirt off him and see what he can do.

BTW, according to the EMU FB media guide Vann had a good h.s. track career. He has some good quicks and speed.

I'd also like to see Parker get his shot this season, but what's the actual likelihood that they'll burn his redshirt? I sincerely don't know. Anyone have a guess as to whether this is a possibility or not?
