Only 4 home OOC games. 3 of them are D1 teams (SIU-Edwardsville, Lehigh, and Cleveland State)
Trips to Georgetown, TCU, Alabama (In Huntsville), and Minnesota
Road halfs of home and homes against North Dakota State, Central Arkansas, and Tennessee-Martin
2 games as part of a Regional round of the Maui Invitational, played at West Point, NY against either Army, Central Arkansas, or UT-Chatanooga. Yes, that means we could potentially play Central Arkansas in freaking upstate New York.
No offense but that schedule sucks big time.
Coach Transition. Previous Coach never really cared about scheduling, and outside of our typical home and home sets with UT Martin and UCA, didn't care if we played the rest on the road. We often played several non D1's
New coach wants to bring higher profile teams in, but our horrible record the last two years and current RPI situation left few teams willing to play along. Heck we only got Lehigh because they signed a kid from Jonesboro High School a couple years back and wanted to give him a homecoming game.
And lets be clear, you guys won't be able to do much better outside of the typical games against South Carolina teams.
This is our schedule:
http://www.goccusports.com/sports/m-bask...sched.html
(You have to do the drop down and pick 2016-2017 season.)
I'm biased but I think ours is a little better. Last year Auburn played us in Conway, and that was the second time we have hosted them. We've also hosted Clemson in the past (and spanked them). Wake Forest comes to Conway next year as a return to this year's away game. Wofford and College of Charleston are good home games.
We have a history of playing multiple crappy sub D1 programs at home (too many in my opinion) but I'm hoping those days are behind us.
That's not better at all. You've got Auburn to come to your place, but you also have Auburn's old head coach. They are going to be more willing to play you guys simply because of him.
Otherwise, your schedule last year included 3 Non D1's and Radford. That's a horrible OOC slate. This year you play only 2 OOC home games all year. Basically every game is a team from the Carolina's.
We only have a couple local schools in our area to run series with, and have managed to convince a Mid Major power in NDSU to sign a home and home, along with recent NCAA teams Cleveland State and Lehigh. They may not be names, but the lack of local teams in the area is not our fault exactly.
Radford was in our conference. We had no choice but to play them. Also, I recognized already that we over schedule non-D1 opponents. It's a constant complaint of our fanbase.
But getting Clemson, Auburn, Wale Forest, etc. to all come play us at Coastal means that we have the ability to get better teams in. It is not impossible.

One of the benefits of the Sun Belt is that we are limited in how many sub-DI games we can schedule, thankfully. I'm sure we'll see a Southern Detroit Wesleyen pop up at some point.
I do think this schedule is a big step up for us in regards to how we've scheduled in the past.
Chief - how is geography a factor if a schedule is better or not? Answer, it isn't. It may be easier for one team to schedule vs a different team based on geography but that doesn't change the actual quality of the schedule. Applies to other factors like a former coach as well.

Well you know...just warming up for our first season in the Sun Belt in one of the big sports.
I fully expect to get smacked around in football a little bit at first. But basketball and baseball better come out swingin'!!

I was very happy for your success in baseball last year and are looking forward to you being a part of the conference. We've historically been a very competitive conference internally as well as nationally, so I only see the conference getting better. Hopefully we'll get to the point of having 3-4 teams make the NCAA tournament like we had in the past.

Regional games are far easier to schedule and more likely to provide an attendance boost for a team. When you are going to have to convince a team to travel 8 or more hours to play you, they are much more likely to look at RPI and other numbers before deciding if the trip is worth it.

I accidentally read Georgia Southwestern as Georgia Southern at first. Was really confused for a minute.
