RE: Miami (FL) at App State Discussion
Our WR are going to have to improve a lot in a week to be able to score enough to win.

I think our defense performs well enough to limit the big plays, but we're going to need to score 30+ to win this one.

HOW?!?! I was telling the guy beside me that Lamb needed to find a 1v1 and throw it up (which he did two plays later to Meadors) however that was the exception. The first play of the game, Capel put a move on the DB and got up field quickly. There are going to need to be more plays like that drawn up for App to have a shot in this and I'd also recommend some quick slants.

As long as the running game is going the defensive line won't be able to drop a lineman into coverage to confuse Lamb so the middle should be open.

RE: Miami (FL) at App State Discussion
a lot of chatter on the Miami boards about how they will blow us out and complaining about the mighty "U" has to travel to little old Boone. Don't know what to expect since Miami played two cup cakes to begin the season, living here in South Florida, I see and read a lot about Miami, and if we had played them last year we would have beaten them by 2 tds. The only area I'm truly worried about is their qb and wr corp, they are going to really test our secondary.

The more I read about them the more I'm keen to sit in the rain on Saturday afternoon.

They're going to find themselves in one of the most hostile environments they'll see all year and I don't think they're going to be ready for it after seeing pictures of our Stadium with nobody inside.

The Rock is a magical place.

Elevation will likely have no impact on their players' conditioning.

We almost beat a Mark Richt coached team last year. App needs to get it done this year

Rain, according to Tebow, is the ultimate equalizer; as is the option. While he doesn't have much clout as a talking head yet, as a player experienced in needing an edge in the NFL, i'll take his word for it. I'll also be there soaked to the bone if need be.

This is a game that means a lot in terms of national respect. Win and it puts our team 2 or 3 years ahead of schedule. Lose and we have to do it the hard way. We're playing with house money in this game and I'm confident it's winnable.

That is a fact as GSU shuts down completely when we go there.

Good luck. That'd be one hell of a win if you pull it off.

This is a massive week...in more ways than just the game.

I live in Blowing Rock, just south of Boone. Tons of Florida transplants live here half the year. None of them can drive.

Maybe after the game they can all start their migration before foliage.

Sure do frequent our sh!thole often!

The atmosphere alone should be a sight to behold, if we win this expect the goalposts to come down. Hopefully they find a way to shield the U's busses. I expect this to be competitive, the U is ranked and if beaten likely could push App into the top 25 as well given the ESPN exposure.

Just read that thread... Their board is a lot like the WVU scout board. A bunch of highly confident illogical fans (with 1 or 2 logical people mixed in). That being said... I hope y'all crush them.

I'm assuming 85% of Miami of Florida fans have never been out of the bubble. Boone>Miami...I prefer mountains over ocean. Hit them first Hit them last and hit them in between and teach them what Sun Belt football is all about.

If App tears the goalposts down, will the students carry them directly into the Miami team bus? Asking for a friend.

No, we will trample their post game pizza's first. It's all about tradition up here on the mountain.

Agreed. The field is flat and elevation doesn't really come into play until you get up around a mile.

I'm less confident now than I was before the season. We rank 125 nationally in 3rd down conversions and we sputter like that Saturday it could be a long day. Our defense will sorely tested. All the focus is on the QB but they have two quality RBs that have to be contained as well. I'm excited for the challenge but this might be a bigger measure of where we are than the UT game. As Saint said, we may have to score 30+ to win.

RE: Miami (FL) at App State Discussion
the poor 3rd down conversions come down to finding a receiver or two that's willing to catch passes over the middle in the 6-8 yd range, so far it doesn't appear we have anyone that can do it. One guy who should be eating up 6 -10 yds a reception is Hopkins, not only one of the fastest wr, but it seems he is one of the quickest in making his cuts, anyway it obvious something needs to change this week in the passing game, throwing a 3 yd pass on one play than attempting a 50 yd pass the next play isn't going to move the sticks. As far as the game, if we can convert just half of our 3rd downs, then I think we have a very strong chance to win the game, but going 1-12 on third down isn't going to get it done, I don't care how well the defense plays.
