That's beyond a terrible decision by Miles.

And Las Cruces is only 3900 feet. Colorado Springs...over 6,000. Big difference.
6600

Only higher in FBS is Wyoming at 7200

Now that I did not know. To hell with that.

Yea it is. I think it's the dryness that gets you more than anything. I've had to make several trips out to Clovis for work and the elevation there is around 4200 feet. The lack of any humidity was a killer though. You had to drink water to stay ahead of what it was doing to you.

We're also used to around 200 ft MSL most of the time too.

RE: Game Thread: Georgia State @ Air Force
Scrotumus played in Colorado a few times during his career. Altitude affected my wind but only for a second... you breathe hard for a few seconds and then catch up and you're okay. Hydration is an issue because you don't feel thirsty when you should be hydrating (if that makes any sense). Altitude does affect ball flight though, and that is an adjustment you don't really think about but you had better make quickly. I felt that the ball flight adjustment was a bigger deal than the wind issue.

I always felt that teams from altitude coming to sea level and humidity had a bigger problem than vice versa, but that's just an observation, I have nothing scientific to back that up.

I can agree the temp and humidity cause people to wilt pretty bad (or at least it's happened in the past).

There's just something about it being so dry that seems to sap away everything from you. It's something I'd never experienced until spending several months out in New Mexico.

There is something to thinner air at high altitudes and it does take some time (longer than 3 hours to be sure). There is a reason why East Africans have dominated long distance running.

GAST had 27 rushing yards? Holy cow.

UT Martin is the first winnable game on the schedule and then it's back downhill from there. Maybe 3 wins if they can beat ULM (debatable) and Idaho (also debatable). What's the big reason for the decline? Just the QB?

Who knows ineffective oline play, running game QB. The offense seems to not be able to put much together consistently besides the long ball. When that ain't clicking then it's real bad.

I asked for thoughts on this over in the power rankings thread. I find it hard to believe that Arbuckle made THAT much difference...but maybe he did.

Could also just be that there's a lot of variance that goes into these outcomes. We happened to catch the top end of it for a while last year. Maybe we're swinging back down to our current average expectations again.

I'm still holding out hope that we'll pull things together like we did last year.

I know this pertains more to the other thread, but I'm going to post here as a direct reply...I think a lot of state's problems do stem directly from losing Arbuckle. There's a psychological aspect to these things that people rarely mention. QBs often are there for more than just throwing the ball. Like any good QB Arbuckle became the motivation and confidence builder for GaState's offense last year. He had been there through the really bad and helped mold (thru good passing and eventually winning) what became a competent offense. Now with him gone, the team has lost that on field motivation/confidence. Theres still a fight over who the next leader is, and neither has proven himself by guiding the team to a win yet. The receiving corp is still in place. I would bet money that Arbuckle last year had unofficial practices with them to help everyone gel and get in sync in their routes and his passing tendencies. Just my 2 cents.

UT Martin gave Cincinnati all they could handle in Week 1.

Gast should be favored, but if their offensive woes continue then watch out.

There's no question that Nick was a leader, on and off the field. I think Manning has similar skills (absent the leadership), but the main issue right now is we can't run the ball...AT ALL!! That has been the most disturbing thing in both games. I think I read we ran 45 plays against AFA...most teams run 45 plays in a half, so for a game that tells you a lot.

Unless the O-line play improves and GSU finds a way to run the ball, it's going to be a long, long, long, long season....
