To the earlier question, UVA is our FBS game again in 2019, but the rest of our past rotation of geographically close teams are already scheduled for 2020 (UVA/VMI, Tech/Liberty, Maryland/Towson, NCState/Delaware, West VA/ECU, Duke/Elon, Pitt/Richmond, Navy/Lafayette, UNC is the only ACC still open.) Consequently, it's understandable that brainstorming is going on for 2020 and beyond. Stanford (with Huge's AD connection) is open for 2020.
Biggest issue facing us as I see it is, if JMU makes the FBS leap of faith, where will the CAA look to for another full sport member. Per below, there is speculation of Monmouth jockeying for that spot. Without a current TV direction locked in yet for the next few years, I'm not sure we will necessarily be as attractive to a preferred SoCon choice. Many Richmond folks seem to think it would be the time for UR/Nova/W&M to collectively move to the Patriot in football. Because of the basketball fiasco, I honestly don't feel bound to UR anymore with any choices we make, since even with any increased basketball success in the next few years, I have no confidence that they would support us in a basketball move to the A10.
The loss of Yeager to retirement could have a bigger impact on our future than anyone realized, if D'Antonio doesn't fill the void. Taking another look at D'Antonio's background indicates no media experience. As someone (old fart to be precise) who cut the cable cord over a year ago and went to streaming all but my local TV content (Sling), I'd like to believe the CAA is getting out ahead of the curve by not locking into old methods, but I'm not sure I'd call a deal with Stretch as being progressive, and CBS Digital/Twitter remains to be seen. Would have preferred an ESPN3 route, but hopefully these guys will come through with finalized deals very soon (as in 3 more weeks), beyond just the CAAtv Roku channel.
