That we agree on, and the A-State coach got that message loud and clear from their fans, the media and probably their administration. You don't lose to schools with that level of talent.

When App lost their talented offensive lineman and plugged in a freshman that game went down hill. What would that suggest?

State hasn't played Georgia Southern, which one could anticipate passing state on the talent scale in the not too distant future due to their location and relative success.
Thank the local media in Statesboro feels AppSt might catch up to A-State in a couple of years in talent, not GaSo.

AppSt benefits by not playing them for two years(a blessing their coach says), but regardless they are clearly behind those two according to their local media, and my bet is on GaSt becoming the best SBC team from Georgia, maybe sooner than later.

Care to provide any reasoning as to why? Or is this like FloridaJag predicting FGCU would join the SunBelt soon?

Huh?
Back on this thread there was a link to an article with their local papers ranking the teams. Can't get it to work but in ranking AppSt 2nd I think they said they were still a couple of years behind the Wolves in recruiting. Might be wrong.

No that is just an opinion.

Granted it is just as likely they are just Georgia's version of the F_U's,doomed to be ignored regardless, whereas GaSo is, and will always be a big deal on their turf.

GaSt really does not have a turf yet, and may never have one in Atlanta.

My last thought for a while.....I can see I was right thinking getting GaSo and AppSt were among the biggest gets in realignment. Nice being right.

No link, just an opinion that i have expressed on another forum here many times.

Back to A-State, do like the fact your coach is stepping up, and holding himself, and the team accountable to playing up to their talent.

Poster on the AStateNations The Den forum reported that at today's TD Club Meeting he said:

"He said he has a lot of confidence in our defense this season. He thinks the offense has all the parts but lacks experience. He said he will tell the team tomorrow that his expectations for a season of football have never been higher than they are right now. His stated goal is "being the best of the G5 and playing in the Cotton Bowl."

Nothing else should be their goal this year, and that does require separation be shown on the field against SBC, and the other G5 Competition or no go.

I also listened to your SR Transfer QB from Pitt, Chad Voytik, on AStateNation radio, and his assessment was that there was no comparing the speed ( and I'm not sure maybe the talent also) at A-State vs Pitt. Much, better at A-State. Says the only question on the team was the QB position.

Their DC, also on AStateNation radio, said only a couple of the receivers in the SBC are close to matching what they face every day in practice, and both of them are at GaSt.

Saying Ark State has the best talent in the conference and is an access bowl dark horse is honestly more believable than "Ark State will be lucky if they go 3-1 in non-conference but they are the best team in the Sun Belt by far". By the way, Phil Steele agrees with the former, but he does also say App State is arguably the most talented team in the conference.

Here is what people should know about Georgia Southern, by the way....we led the country in rushing yards with statistically one of the worst passing attacks we've ever had as a program. The receiver position will be improved along with the offense returning all the key players. If we supplement last year's running with a good passing offense I don't see anyone on our schedule stopping us except for maybe Ole Miss. The question mark is whether or not the new coaching staff will know how to use them.

Then their DC is in for a big surprise this year.

This years version of the Red Wolves would beat last years version by at least two TS's if not more, so hopefully every SBC team will improve as much this year.

Should be a fun year.

There are maybe a handful of teams in the country that ever get two touchdowns better than their previous selves in one offseason. Arkansas State is not one of those teams.

They're good. They might be better than last year. But they aren't a team full of superheroes.

Last year's team scored 58 offensive TD's (down two from the year before but scored three on special teams and 8 on defense)

Averaged an offensive TD every 16.8 plays but last year's squad was very inefficient otherwise, 8th most punts in school history, 82 possession changes resulting from punt or failed fourth down attempts. Averaged a first down less per game than any of the past five seasons but for the 2013 Harsin season.

82 offensive TD's?

Nope. There is still a lot of growth potential left though just by being more efficient.

Well I have to go by the talent, and Auburn has more talent( I really did not pay attention to Utah St, or Toledo), but to be the G5 representative they would probably have to go 12-0, or totally dominate the G5 and FCS schools on their schedule.

They have a chance of having a 2-deep to do that this year, and that should be their goal, but the data I have seen has them with 9 wins +/- 1 with a slight lean toward 10.

They are still more talented than any SBC team, but that has been evident for some time, and should be more so this year.

Yes I will, other than monitoring a forum on the #1 Razorback site I'm retiring, and today( per my wife) is my retirement day. Will not have access to the recruiting info next year anymore anyway, so better to get while the getting is good.

Have great respect all the SBC schools( especially, AppSt, and GaSo who I knew would be the biggest gets in realignment), and would not swap any of you for any two that left, but would keep Idaho and NMSU.

This is my last visit ( again per my wife. or it is the big "D") to this site so God speed to all of you.
