"ODU football" and "history" being used in the same sentence seems odd to me.

You have to remember UNC was our 5th FBS team played that year 2013. Playing 5 FBS teams with an FCS roster (for all intents and purposes). We were incredibly beat up by the end of that year. I doubt under the same circumstances JMU or W&M would have done much better. In fact has either of your teams ever played more than one FBS team in one year? Just curious.

We've never quit a football game with five minutes remaining. So no, we wouldn't have done that under similar circumstances.

Justifying begging for mercy against a mediocre UNC team: THAT'S SO ODU.

Because you're just curious, I'll enlighten you: Your 4 games leading into your final game at UNC (all wins) included Norfolk State, Rhode Island at home, away at the FBS powerhouse of Idaho, and home vs Campbell. The last three were won by a margin of 167-66. So, let's accept the fact that you played 4 cupcakes in over a month leading up to UNC, mostly in Norfolk, and rested your roster in the 2nd half of each game.

And, yes, W&M used to play a FULL schedule of FBS teams and never quit.

That answer didn't work out quite as you had planned, did it?

My guess is when you played FBS you didn't have only 3/4's of the scholarship players other teams had. And a cupcake portion of the schedule the last 4 weeks does nothing for season ending injuries, of which we had plenty. My point still stands. Take this years roster and play 5 FBS schools (3 in the ACC) and see how you do. My guess is it wouldn't be pretty. Having said that I was plenty ticked off at our schedule makers that year. 2013 was the first year of NCAA mandated transition. We should have eased into it a bit more.

We're burying the most important part. Sure, you sucked & everyone else was a lot better. But I've never even heard of a team giving up like that. Ever!

That was embarrassing no doubt. The only defence I can possibly give is Wilder thought it was necessary. As far as a lot better, we were pretty competitive with most of the other FBS games.

RE: Conference Movement
Has there ever been another game in the modern era of college football where one team begged for mercy to end the game early? At any level? I don't think so, although I'm open to being educated.

Until proven otherwise, ODU's pansy act will stand alone as the single most humiliating decision by a coach on behalf of his program in college FB history. There's no real shame in being outscored by a large margin, but to QUIT??? To beg for mercy??? Unforgivable and pathetic.

Yes but to me, that's ancient history. We are getting better. It takes time to build depth at this level. We certainly didn't have it in 2013. And as far as ending games early, there must have been others. I know teams have called for a running clock. That's kinda the same isn't it?

Well...yes. There has been another example.

2015 - With Boston College up 62-0 against Howard at the half, both teams agreed to shorten the second half by 10 minutes.

I suppose you could argue that it didn't appear to be written as a request from Howard, and thus not an example of what you're after.

Did they score 20? Plus that years Tarheel team was much better than the 2015 edition of BC. I honestly think this years defense is going to surprise people.

Ehh. It was rock bottom and it lives on forever here on le interwebs. We'll never be a transitional team again, so we've got that going for us. If we never walk into another game where we are injury-riddled and so clearly outclassed, I would be a happy fan indeed.

Are we this pathetic that we need to sit here in the CAA and trash ODU for getting pummeled? We look like a bunch of clowns if that's the case.

When JMU quits or gets beat giving up 80 you can weigh-in again. Until then, join the ODU board if you want to defend them or cast aspersions on JMU fans who are just taking a factual stroll down memory lane.

There are several games where we could have been beat by 80. I really don't feel like listing them for you as you obviously were not there. Geno Smith literally threw a TD pass while we had a DT running on to the field. You kidding me?
