Also doesn’t look like an OOC tournament this year. 11 OOC games 10 D1 one non D1) + 18 conference games should put the Dukes at the 29 limit.

One early observation for 19-20. First two games after exhibition are against pack line teams- I’m assuming Sanchez especially in year 2 runs Bennett’s pack line defense albeit with lesser players. I like that these games are back to back to start the season. Practice vs the packline all offseason to prepare.

Future MBB Schedule
It’s mind boggling how not scheduling non-D1 opponents is that challenging.

When I see this yawner of a non-CAA schedule, it makes perfect sense to me why JMU chose to pick the afternoon before July 4th to release it.

what the heck are you talking about.

ACC -1 - Uva, local and Nat Champs
A10 - 2 - GMu - ex caa and good game for NOVA alums
aac - 1 - ECU - future conference mate
Cusa -2 - ODU, local and ex CAA, Charlotte, again regional

Radford has good teams the last few year and local

so, maybe 3 games that are soft? what is your complaint, shenandoah? everyone has one of these

Coppin and Charleston Southern?

seriously, some will complain about anything

For starters, I rarely complain about anything around here. Second, let's take a look at the home schedule...

Charlotte (last year's RPI = 262, 8-21 record)
Shenandoah (OK, we play non-D1, I get it)
New Hampshire (last year's RPI = 345, 3-24 record)
Coppin State (last year's RPI = 342, 8-25 record)
EZU (last year's RPI = 258, 10-21 record)
Charleston Southern (last year's RPI = 197, 14-16 record)

I get it that we have contracts to face teams like EZU, but that doesn't make it any less of a yawner. I'll be there at the games. Hope to see you there. I was hoping by Year 4 of Rowe's tenure we'd be attracting better competition. If we don't go 6-0 in that stretch of home games before the CAA schedule starts, then it is a terrible sign of things to come. Hoping that won't be any worry. I know we are pointing to the opening of the new arena a year from now, but nothing about this home schedule is going to get more than 1,500 sets of hind parts into the Convo or get students fired up to go get excited about this team in Nov & Dec.

With all the Multi Team Events (MTE's) out there that can get us to 31 games, I'm a little surprised and disappointed we haven't found our way into one and are settling for 29 total games. Oh well.

Definitely a mixed bag. The road OOC schedule is very good with 4 state teams and one bogey in Fordham. ODU, Radford, George Mason, and UVA all make so much sense and should happen every year. All but Fordham should be rating builders in the NCAA NET rating. Get Va Tech, Richmond and VCU on the schedule and you would have a home run of former CAA colleagues and the two P5 State schools.

The home OOC schedule is garbage and it will be really tough to sell season tickets and single game tickets with that Sisters of the Poor lineup. I agree that JMU should be 6-0 at home with relative ease. I still hate the DIII games as they are useless and pointless. Shenandoah won a whopping 5 games last year and they are supposed to help JMU improve. 01-wingedeagle

11 OOC games instead of 13 sucks. I’m not sure why JMU couldn’t find a worthy tourney to play in. Perhaps they have been getting shunned because of the crappy resume from the Rowe era. Surely, JMU wouldn’t intentionally choose to play fewer games when the program is starving for meaningful win opportunities.

Did the NCAA get rid of the rule saying teams couldn't play in tournaments in back to back years?

If you are talking about early season tournaments, there is no rule disallowing consecutive seasons playing in them. ESPN runs most of these tournaments and they fill them pretty much with P5 teams as the main draws. It would be rare that the blue bloods don't participate in these early season tourneys.

As far as postseason NCAA tournaments, JMU apparently places a rule on ourselves of not playing in back to back years...or, more than once a decade for that matter. (j/k)

Don't know the answer, but at selection time, it seems the P5s usually have played more games (and thus the potential for more wins)

RE: Future MBB Schedule
I think the way the rule works is that you can plan 27 games + up to 4 from an exempt tournament or 29 games with no exempt tournament. JMU opted for the later this year. 11 OOC (1 D3) and 18 Conference games. In years past those exempt tournaments have been a mixed bag- last year Oakland for example. If you can't get in a good one I can see not playing in one.

I give Rowe a C- on scheduling thus far- it hasn't been where it needs to be. On the plus side anytime you can get UVA on the schedule that's a very good thing. UVA is the defending champion and will be ranked again so that's big improvement from last year. I agree that JMU should play 2 Power teams per OOC. I like that Rowe has prioritized some of the regional games (ODU, Mason, ECU, Charlotte etc.). Since Richmond has obviously gone another direction would love to see JMU start a series with either Va Tech or VCU next season. If you have that plus UVA ODU and Mason that's a pretty solid OOC schedule.

Rowe has inputs, but he isn't negotiating and finalizing the MBB schedule. That's Bourne and/or one of his designees in his office.

I think you will be wrong this year. I am expecting a much improved season this year and with it I improved attendance. People like a winner and JMU will turn things around this season. They will have a winning record and will be well above .500.

Yep. I missed it by 9 wins. Thought the Freshman would grow up faster. They did not.

I think this most recent class will add talent and depth that wasn’t there. I also think the league will be very young while JMU will finally have some experience.

I'll give it to you, you're optimistic. I would like you to go just a little further out on that limb, give us a minimum number of wins. 18 - 13 (2.5 wins above .500) isn't gonna turn into butts in seats. Just what is "well above"?
