Colin Bonner wins CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year
This is significant, given that this is only the 2nd time a male UNCW athlete has taken the league's award, and 4th time for men or women. Congrats Colin!

Bonner Named CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year

RICHMOND, Virginia – While former UNCW men's soccer standout Colin Bonner has started his professional career, he can add one final item to his growing list of accolades – being named 2015-16 Colonial Athletic Association Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

The Fulton, Md., native becomes the second UNCW performer named as the CAA's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year after swimming and diving standout Michael Krayer collected the award in 2005-06. Bonner is the fourth UNCW athlete to receive the distinction, joining Krayer, golfer Michelle Jarman (2004-05) and women's swimming and diving star Melissa Milstead (2006-07).

A Business Administration major with a 3.80 grade point average, Bonner earned First-Team NSCAA All-Midwest Region and All-CAA notice after leading the Seahawks in scoring with 20 points, including seven goals and six assists. He tied for third in the CAA in goals and points and received CAA Co-Player of the Week honors after netting three goals in a 5-1 win over North Florida on Sept. 4.

In addition, the First-Team All-State honoree became the first men's soccer player in UNCW history to be awarded First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and was a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. He also received the William and Deborah Rudisill Scholarship in Athletics Endowment and was named as the recipient of UNCW's Thomas V. Moseley Award and Chancellor's Cup.

Bonner, who was drafted by FC Dallas in the third round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft, finished his career as the ninth-leading scorer in UNCW history with 61 points while starting 72-of-75 games. He ranks 10th all-time with 23 goals and his 15 career assists are tied for seventh on the all-time list.

He made his debut appearance, and first start, with FC Dallas yesterday against Clint Dempsey's Seattle Sounders squad. However, he was not able to make much of an impact in his 27 minutes of play, as Seattle cruised to a 5-0 victory. FC Dallas played with 10 men for the final 84 minutes of the match after a handball in the box by defender Maynor Figueroa. Dempsey got tossed in the 33rd minute as well.

Not sure why he was removed so early, however.
