When do you root for non-conference G5 teams against P5s?
Was just curious about this. A non-conference G5 team beating a P5 team is going to hurt us in the conference ratings, but it's also good for the G5 to get wins over the P5, right?

RE: When do you root for non-conference G5 teams against P5s?
I asked a similar question, I believe when I first joined this board.

If I remember correctly, most at that time would be for the G5 nearly everytime.

But I think that was before the G5/P5 labels, the playoff money and the Access Bowl.

By giving us ONE spot as the collective G5, the P5 programs have us fighting each other like dogs over a scrap bone below the King's feast table.

There doesn't seem to be any unity as us being the G5 against them (P5). Not anymore.

We need the other G5 teams to be weaker than us, but wins by G5 over the P5 do fuel the conversations of playoff expansion. So we deal with the double edged sword I guess.

It'd be nice if the P5 programs were to lose about 80% of their G5 games and help move those arguments along. But that isn't about to happen.

So, now I just really want the Belt to have the best OOC record and the most wins over the P5. I'm not really for any of those other upsets unless it would directly help one of our teams make the top 25 or Rise in the polls. Like if a P5 is ranked 27 and we are ranked 30. The P5 loss and a win by us puts us closer to the top 25. But if they are behind us, I don't really care.

IF the other conference's G5 does pull off a P5 win, at least there is a silver lining in it for the collective G5 I suppose.

The only ones that I'll be pulling for are belt teams. Well Boise State too, I like them for some reason. Sorry Idaho fans lol.

Not arguing against your freedom of choice. I used to want Boise to win as well. But what if they are in first place for the Access Bowl and our conference still has a team in the running for it?

That's the kind of stuff that we have to consider now. What is that? About a 6 Million dollar pay out our conference just for having a team reach it?
So what? $600,000 per school minus all the expenses? Or how do we divide Bowl Money/Access money?
-----------------------------

ADDED:

Apparently it's a whole lot more money than that.
Here is a link to Boise folks discussing it trying to figure out how much money them making the Access Bowl.

Dang Boise State, We need that slot!

Obviously I would pull for another belt team if they were in a position over Boise but I do like the Broncos because they are what I hope CCU can eventually reach.

Almost always. Every now and again, it's good to see some G5 schools attitudes put in check.

The only time I don't is if it might effect my school or conference's chances at the Access Bowl. Other than that, I always cheer for G5 over P5.

Unless my team is the favorite, or it's a fellow SB team vs an FCS, I root for the underdog in every situation; P5-G5, G5-G5, P5-P5, P5-FCS, G5-FCS

Boise is arguably one team we shouldn't pull for against Power 5 teams.

They do nothing for the Sun Belt and when they beat a P5 the story line is never going to be anything about parity, it's going to be "Boise blasts another Power 5 team".

I don't get that at all. David versus Goliath and you pull for Goliath? Sad.

I agree with him. Don't give the little guys any ammo. Like I always pull for a SBC team against any other conf. I will pull for FBS against FCS. Losing to FCS can make us all look weak.

I like this format. Me:

App State > SBC > G5 teams not in CUSA > P5 teams not later listed > CUSA > P5 teams from above the Mason Dixon Line > Bama > ISIS > Satan himself > Carolina

I hate seeing G5's lose to FCS but I laugh like hell when P5's lose to FCS.
