Besides La. Tech, would any other CUSA schools have major objections to a theoretical realignment with CUSA and SBC schools reorganizing into a geographically based arrangement?

That's almost impossible to answer, especially on a message board. Fans look at it through a very different prism than university presidents and ADs; fans have a different take on what constitutes a "peer" program than the folks in charge...La Tech "fans" may object, but the university president is the one looking at the costs, weighing benefits, etc., and that gives a different perspective. He/She must, of course, take into account fans attitudes, donors, etc., before making a decision...but message borders could possibly see things as a step back, a step side-ways, a step forward.

Having said that, it seems to me that all the schools in CUSA could possibly see positives and negatives with any realignment, much as some SBCers might also...cost, travel, competition, institutional fit, etc. are all factors.

Just my two cents....

SNIP! All of your wild fantasy crap about CUSA vs the SBC.

Not to mention, USM is not joining up with USA, UAB is not going to join up with Troy and Tech sure is heck not going to be joining up with ULL and ULM, dialing the clock back 20 years. Just not going to happen.

You got that right (the bolded). "LA Tech will NEVER be back in the Sun Belt!!!" - Direct quote from a VIP who would know.

Edit: And oh, just so you know (no linkie love for you, sorry), your oh-so-exalted LA Tech came begging the Belt to take them back when the WAC collapsed. The Belt said "NO!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!!"

Be thankful CUSA threw you a lifeline.

Tech was never in the Sunbelt in football and after the 2 years of the Big West (ASU, ULL) choose to remain independent instead of joining the Sunbelt before joining the WAC in 2000.

As far as Tech asking the Sunbelt to join, there is not an ounce of truth to that.

Its ok to be a fan, but you have to be realistic. A more regional conference would thrill Tech fans and the admin. Do you think Tech would draw better attendance with games against ULL, ULM, ASU, USM, USA . . . or better attendance against FIU, FAU, ODU, UNCC, UTEP?

The travel cost would be less for the top teams (It's all about reducing cost for non-revenue sports) How much does it cost your volleyball team to fly to Virginia, West Virginia, Florida and N.C? What about the soccer team?

Do your fans care whether your beat ODU or ASU? ULM or UNCC? It is better to play a closer team to build a rivalry and get fans from the opposing team to travel and spend $$ in your town.

Would you rather be cheering your team on in Monroe or listening to them on the radio from Charlotte? Do you actually think it makes a difference to the world and recruits if you are playing UNCC instead of ULM? Even the players would rather play ULM and UL

Just my two cents....

It has to be look at through a historic perspective also. Some of these schools have fought hard (28 years) to stay out of the Sunbelt so they aren't taking a step back.

I would say that pretty much all of CUSA schools would be against CUSA/SBC merger. The negatives far outweigh the positives for the majority of CUSA schools. The ones that left the Sunbelt aren't going to go back, and Southern Miss, Marshall, Rice, UTEP, UAB and Tech would definitely object.

I think the TV contract has been blown out of proportion. Yes a reduction is not good, but CUSA is not playing on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, And majority of our games are on Saturday evening.
It was good move by CUSA to rebuff a little more money to not play during the week. 600,000/ year per school can easily be made up for with additional tickets sold with Saturday games. TV is not what is use to be and to play Tuesday to be on FOX FCS is just not worth it.

You're still living in a fantasy world. There is no "step back" to the Sunbelt and sooner or later CUSA fans and administrators will have to accept and acknowledge there is no difference between the conferences. That myth went away a few weeks ago. In reality it went away when all those schools left for the AAC, but it took until the revelation of CUSA's new TV contract and the fact they lost a huge chunk of TV money two years ago but had been maintaining the illusion of all is well with exit fees. Once these administrators start seeing big budget deficits roll in, they'll look at those close by Sunbelt schools in a whole new light.

Please explain what the positives would be?

The travel would marginally better but the reality is no CUSA administrator in the right mind is going to dial the clock back 20 years and merged with the Sunbelt. It just not going to happen.

Your perspective is from playing FBS football all of 2 years, all in the Sunbelt. CUSA is more competitive in football with better talent so why would they merge with a less talented and less competitive conference. Not to mention, USM is not joining up with USA, UAB is not going to join up with Troy and Tech sure is heck not going to be joining up with ULL and ULM, dialing the clock back 20 years. Just not going to happen.

Records since current conference lineup(14-16):
CUSA vs MWC 3-4
CUSA vs AAC 6-4
CUSA vs MAC 10-4
CUSA vs Sunbelt 9-1

CUSA#4 beat Undefeated #1 Sunbelt Champs in bowl. Final 47-28

CUSA#1 beat #4 AAC (6-2) USF in a bowl in their backyard. Final 45-35

2016 NFL Draft:
CUSA 10 + 1 players
AAC 10
MWC 9
MAC 5
Sunbelt 3

My perspective is from following college football intimately for 40 years. You can post this team beat that team and this conference had that many draft picks and so on and so on all you want. All that means nothing going forward. N-O-T-H-I-N-G! You're living a myth by thinking LaTech is superior to Sunbelt programs. I've been to Ruston. I've been in your stadium and basketball arena. I' didn't see anything that justify's the attitude I see from some - not all - of your folks.

What I do know is La Tech has 11 winning seasons in the last 25 years. The last two came in an extremely depleted CUSA. You talk down to the Sunbelt yet 3 of the 8 members you were in the WAC with became Sunbelt schools. Your home average for the past 10 years is 17,686. Your largest crowd in those 10 years was 26,910 vs lowly Sunbelt member Louisiana. The next highest of 26,004 was against FCS Nicholls State in '14. Unbelieveably out drawing Miss State in '08. IMO, La Tech folks have NO basis for looking down on anyone.

Largest crowd was not ULL, last ten years was probably Southern last season when it was a sell out. Didnt even play Nicholls in 2014

Laughable, You have no perspective of starting DIA football back in 1988 and life as Independet traveling to play Alabam, Oklahoma, Nebraska. You see we didnt have the luxury of playing against the lowest rung of teams in FBS footballl like App State does. We went 9-2 beating the SEC Champs Alabama and cracked the top 25 and stil didint get a bowl bid. You have no perspective off starting a DIA program back in the late 80's

You probably also know we dominated the reigning Sunbelt champs in 2014 in Lafayette, Dominated ULL last season and dominated the undefeated Sunbelt Champs last Dec in the NO Bowl. We have nothing to gain by playing a Sunbelt because even if we dominated the best the Sunbelt has to offer like last Dec there are still people like you with no perspective.

And ha! whatever success achieved on the field is not being felt at the bottom line: your budget, ticket sales and donations to your athletic fund are moribund. And things will only get worse this year with the huge drop in tv rights and return to the usual lackluster teams. Other than that things are pretty rosey. lol!

RE: Commentary: SBC/CUSA Merger?
You Tech fans can say "nonsense" or whatever else you want in reference to your "exalted" school begging the Belt to take them back when the WAC folded just to be laughed at and told "NOPE!" all you want. The straw poll took less than an hour or two, BTW. Do you believe for a second your athletic department folks are going to admit to you that both ULM & Louisiana said "NOPE!!!"? You guys don't know a damned thing about it and this is the only time and place you'll ever hear about it because your admin knows you're all a bunch of egotists (as are they) and nothing more than a bunch of mushrooms when it comes to realizing the fact you are not only irrelevant to the SBC, but have earned a permanent "No shoes, no shirt, no service" from the conference as well.

I've got "King Karl's" personal cellphone number. Not that he is my source (he's not) but do you have YOUR commissioner's personal cellphone number? I thought not.

Now move along little dawggies, move along.

I follow Eact Carolina closely and have a lot of prespective about what it was like being an independent in those days. Just to clarify... you guys go 9-2 in 1997 and beat a 4-7 Alabama team and a 3-8 Cal team. The remaining W's were over what are now G5 schools. Congratulations. You also got whacked by 36 at Auburn. You do realize that was almost 20 years ago and the players on your roster today were at most 3 years old. Ancient history by today's standards and that's exactly what I've been trying to get across to you. It's a new day. Nobody cares what you did 20 years ago.

Your arguement that LaTech is too good for the Sunbelt is based on 1 game against Lafayette in 2015? Seriously?? Hate to break this to you, but that signature win was by 8 more points than we beat them later in the year, our first in FBS.

My mistake for writing Nicholls Stata, I intended to use Northwestern State. Coin flip, still a FCS school. You admitted selling out for Southern, ANOTHER FCS school. Let me get this straight.... LaTech's 2 best crowds the last 10 years were against FCS schools and you're too good for the Sunbelt. 03-lmfao

Tech and ODU is starting to build a nice rivalry in hoops. Football will come. These things take time.

That was the first time we beat Alabama, you see we have beaten Alabama multiple times.
Tech went 8-3 in 1999, with losses to #1 Florida State and #6 Texas A&M.
Tech beat the SEC Champs Alabama (10-2) in Birmingham. They were ranked #5 after beating Florida 34-7 in the SEC championship game. They went on to play Michigan in a BCS Bowl. Let me know when App beats the SEC Champs or beats a playoff team.

So you completely didn't mention last December when Tech beat the undefeated Sunbelt Champs Arkansas State 48-27 in the New Orleans Bowl. Tech broke the NO Bowl record with 687 yards of offense. Maybe it was because a few weeks before Arkansas State manhandled App State in North Carolina.

Tech doesn't look down on the Sunbelt but Tech is not going to go back 20 years and merge with a conference that Tech chose not to be a part of.

Trust me. The fans, the $$$$$ and the top administrators at Tech are totally against a merger with the Sunbelt.

Yes, it is fine to blow-out ULL or ULM every now and then, just for nostalgia. But Tech is not taking ten steps back but going forward.

If you think you are 10 steps ahead of ULL or ULM you are completely delusional.

I know about Tech, I remember the Lady Techsters, and Karl Malone. I know about Terry Bradshaw and Willie Rolf. But all of that is ancient history.

Tech had a good football team last year and has had more success in football then any SBC school, but nobody, besides Tech fans, thinks they are 10 steps ahead of SBC schools. No CUSA team is 10 steps ahead of any SBC teams.

I only responded to the 9-2 team and the game vs Louisiana YOU referenced. You keep talking about games that happened 20 years ago. Other than LaTech fans swooning over past glories, nobody remembers or cares. If Tech doesn't look down on the Sunbelt, your fans sure talk lot of smack on our schools.

You may find this hard to believe, but I've been to most of the universities in Louisiana. The resource divide among those schools is shocking. I was always told Louisiana university politics is cut throat and nobody gets along with anyone else. After seeing those schools you don't have to convince me.
