2016 MLB Draft (June 9-11)
We always seem to have teams loaded with NC talent. How often do we attract talented out of state players?

Stupiensky is from NJ, Connelly from NY and Feight is a Virginia kid. However, I think with the out of state costs associated with players we bring in, we're unfortunately seeing a reduction in those kids over time. Bigger programs can afford those types of scholarships but we really can't afford to do it all the time.

At the very least, we've been able to recruit SC better recently. Spartanburg Methodist used to be a program Charleston could kind of put a rope around. Lately we seem to be stealing kids from there every year.

Draft night! Since I don't expect any Seahawks to go in the first two rounds, tonight my focus shifts to my Mets, who have 3 picks (# 19, # 31, # 64).

Haha I sincerely hope not! The Mets have been strongly linked to Wake Forest 3B Will Craig at 19. That would be a fine pick there. We need to solidify our future at 3B, and that kid can simply rake.

Future degenerate, I'm afraid. Poor guy just couldn't stay healthy. Shame too, because that's how he'll be remembered, when what he SHOULD be remembered for was that 2006-2010 stretch when he made 5 straight All-Star games, was Top 10 in the MVP vote 3 times, Gold Glover AND Silver Slugger twice, hit .305 and had an .898 OPS over the 5 year period, and racked up a 27.1 WAR (5.4 per season).

Still upset that he entered the HR Derby in 2006. His stats went downhill after that that year. That was a good Mets team that year.

Not sure. Is he a walk-on? I can't remember what the article in the starnews said about them.

Haha! Now that right der is funny, I don't care who ya are! I was obviously kidding, but it's pretty hilarious it happened. I really like the yanks #1, but it sounds like he's going to be a difficult sign.

Ha! Evidently the Mets didn't expect Dunn to make it to them at 19 and felt they had to pull the trigger. Harold Reynolds compared him to Pedro Martinez, and he also struck out Dustin Pedroia on a nasty breaking ball in a Red Sox-BC exhibition game, for whatever its worth. They would have likely taken Will Craig at 19 if Dunn had not been there.

They also ended up taking Florida 1B Peter Alonso at 64, so that helped.

The Mets have been the best in baseball at developing pitching, so I can't knock them for doubling down on more. It's the best asset you can have and can result in some pretty sweet trades down the road, like the one that brought the Mets Cespedes.

At least they can develop someone. The Yankees have been pretty bad at that the last 10+ years with a few exceptions.

Ok. Levi Gesell is not walking on. He accepted an offer. He's not on the list because he has to complete two summer sessions at Pitt CC before he can be officially announced. He'll have 3 years eligibility. He's 6'4' and apparently prefers 1st base over pitching.
