I doubt they put much thought into it, but I wonder why they didn't leave the ASU's together for scheduling. It was probably the closest thing to an east/west rivalry the SBC had the last two years.

Maybe someday we will have the Battle for Thayer and Mammoth Spring Bragging Rights Game.

My guess is that the rotations were probably agreed to long before we actually started deveoping a rivalry. There was no way of knowing a couple years ago that our first two games would go the way they did. If you'll remember, App came into the league off a 4 win season in FCS. While people knew they wouldn't stay down long, what they did that first year in the league was entirely unexpected.

Growing up I can remember a radio station licensed to Thayer carried AState games and a radio station licensed to Mammoth carried Mizzou.

To the point of the original thread, let's remember that Arkansas State was one of the reasons Texas State couldn't get in the Southland in the early 1980's due to the travel costs. Texas State was finally able to get into the coveted SLC when Astate and Co. left to form the American South. I'm sure that's the biggest motivating factor for this trophy.

They actually joined before we left....publicly. Not sure what was said behind closed doors.

Rivalries...meh.

I hate everyone else so I consider everyone else a rival.

Me, you, and about 10 other people are aware that AState and La.Tech weren't interested in adding three more Texas schools.

Someone needs to invent a snarky font. That way, when I say things like "I'm sure that's the biggest motivating factor for this trophy." the point gets across that there is heavy sarcasm or humor behind it.
