Okay, that makes sense, thanks.

I would have to think so. Increased media interest for sure. The downside is if the Owls were somehow able to pull off the upset, this debacle would be wielded by pundits to minimize the victory and marginalize the team. The narrative would no longer be "Rice beats very good Baylor"; it would become "Baylor falling apart due to HC fiasco".
Even so, we would all be ecstatic to experience that downside.
I agree. Win the game and then worry about it.

While that may be true, let's win the game and find out how it gets spun later on. The fact is, even with Briles gone, Baylor will have a ton of talent lining up against us..
Yeah, but coaching makes the difference.
oh, well then.

OCO texted that to me as well...and I agree!
There was a guy on 247sports (forgot location) saying on twitter that Bailiff would be an excellent hire at Baylor.
I immediately thought of you guys here.

When a head coach leaves/fired, don't his recruits have the opportunity to leave without having to sit out? Ala Penn State?

No, only if the school disbands the program or faces once per generation sanctions which is what Penn State did.
Baylor is closer to Mike Riley at Alabama and Neuheisal's "gambling". players have to stay.

No.
Penn state was a special exception.

RE: Report: Art Briles out at Baylor
The problem with the "coaching matters" thesis is that our coach doesn't get any better even if the opponent's gets worse.
I would agree that if Baylor had to keep Bennett for 5 years, we might close the gap with Baylor at a slightly faster than glacial pace.
But Briles is 3 quantum levels above Bailiff in coaching ability and he was there for spring ball and we play them early in the season. I don't think the wheels will come off that soon.
I think the most likely result is Baylor scores on every first half possession and we lose by 60+. Why is there any reason to think otherwise? La Tech and Western Ky could name the score against us, and Baylor has much better players than those CUSA schools do.
The net result will be that Briles will look like a genius and some school with more football aspiration than conscience will hire him. He'll make $1M per year less than he did at Baylor with the difference going to security and compliance staff.

How much money is Tillman willing to write a check for to keep Mensa?
A lot and now he has his buddy McCombs championing us for Big12.
I don't know if that will ever amount to anything. But obviously it's good having an ally like Tillman in political games like this.

I don't think so. It will be Baylor's third game of the year (after home games vs. Northwestern State and SMU). It might depend on who they hire - if they hired Herman, it might be a bigger deal.

I watched in a local sports bar last year with the Baylor fans (and one other Rice fan) and most of the Baylor fans were pretty disappointed in how weak their team played us. They believed the score should have been over 100 and I could not find much I was seeing on the screen to disagree. If we can hold them to only 50 this year that would be somewhat of an improvement for our defense.

Every other coach is still there (for now). Not sure if Art Briles called all of the offensive plays or not. If not, I don't see how this majorly affects their ability to execute on game day. And even if he did, the same philosophies will still be in place. I still place the Owls at a disadvantage on that factor.
