Haha. It beats playing Charleston at their place with them in a do or die situation.

We blew the jmu series and I don't see that happening again. While a northeastern matchup could be tough this is a good draw for us

Please. This isn't hoops and we beat you twice already.

Wouldn't you? I assume we will because you need to win to stay out of the losers bracket no?

Dustin Hunt pitches Game #2 so not a big drop off.

You love the sh*t talking don't you, lol. Charleston learned last year that beating us in the regular season didn't matter too much.

And yes I'd probably choose to throw an ace in your shoes. Your starting pitching is solid 1-3 so it makes sense to do so.

RE: 2016 CAA Baseball Tournament
geewiz is on the correct path concerning the starter. No way do the teams playing on Wednesday want anything to do with the loser's bracket on the first day. That would mean that a day one first game loser would have to play six more games to win the championship. (I think I figured that correctly.) The loser's bracket is a tough route from day 1.

I talk sh*t? If that isn't the kettle calling the pot black!

Some of you guys act like it's beneath you to lose to a league opponent. Like every year you act like you're supposed to run roughshod through the CAA.

You complain losing 2 of 3 at JMU when clearly they have improved. You lose to NU and its excuse after excuse.

I mean UNCW has flaws like everyone else. You're road record isn't stellar, you can score some runs on your pitchers and power pitchers can neutralized your lineup.

But you are the favorites. So i guess its your birthright to win the tourney ... :)

RE: 2016 CAA Baseball Tournament
Oh and piggy backing off your post on the JMU board about the tournament.

You said "the league was competitive because teams have put their emphasis on winning conference games rather than midweek contests. It's not the best philosophy, perhaps, but its one that makes league games really tough to win."

So put yourself in Mike Glavine's shoes...

You put the so-called "emphasis" on midweek games (along with CAA games).

Who are we playing in those midweek matchups?

Hartford
Bryant
BC
UConn
Harvard
Holy Cross
Qunnipiac
URI
UMass
UMass-Lowell
Maine
Central Connecticut

Hmmm, not exactly Top 50 RPI material execept for a few teams (Bryant, BC this year, not usually the case, UConn and Hartford, certainly not a regular case)

Compare that to the regions UNCW, W&M, JMU, CofC and Elon play in.

If NU played down South we wouldn't spend money traveling to Oklahoma and Washington State this year.
South Carolina last year.
Texas A&M, Notre Dame and VaTech 2 years ago.

I don't see any of those teams above making trips like that no? Why? No need to playing In ACC, SEC, SoCon, Big South country.

In this century, UNCW has won 7 of 16 CAA regular season championships and 4 of the CAA tournament championships. No other team remaining in the CAA has even been close to that. And, Towson is the only non-original CAA school to win a tournament so far.

Yes it is our birthright to win this league every year. Because we're the best program and set the bar high.

You complain about being in the northeast, but there was a time when your program had guys like Carlos Pena. Can't do much about geography but our schedule strength and program history is about a ton of hard work and great coaching. Being in the southeast isn't always a blessing. We have to battle programs like UNC, NC State, ECU and Coastal for recruits. But we win a lot of those battles, despite a comparatively tiny budget, because Scalf and Hood are awesome at what they do.

It's worth pointing out that this year, much like many past seasons, we are in position to make the regionals even if we fall in Chucktown. Making the regionals about once every other year puts us on par with upper-mid level SEC or ACC caliber programs, as we don't have to depend on automatic bids to get in all the time.

Mike Glavine seems like a solid coach so maybe you can become a perennial contender too soon. But until then, yes, we're the top dogs and have been for nearly 2 decades. So we've earned that right to talk sh*t, especially here on our own board. :)

Also, despite NU's emphasis on weekend pitching, you did only go 12-11 in league play. More support/funding towards baseball is needed, but wouldn't it be prudent to maybe spend some of those scholarship portions on everyday players? Just food for thought.

We also get tough draws every year we make the regionals because of our geography.

RE: 2016 CAA Baseball Tournament
UNCW has an advantage being part of the UNC system because tuition, especially in-state, is low. Very few/almost no college baseball prospects get full rides, so mom and dad have to pay something to send the kid to school. The combination of quality education, reasonable cost, and a stable winning program helps UNCW maintain the excellent baseball program.

Keeping the coach is the key. Keep Coach Scalf happy.

Yes, the cheap in-state tuition indeed helps, but it doesn't explain how we beat out other UNC system schools for those in-state kids. Higher standards in terms of education sometimes can be more of a hindrance than a help for acquiring talent as well.

Oh joy. NU beat us back in the first quarter of the season in Boston when it was like 26 degrees outside.

Good on ya.

We'll see how you fair in Charleston when our bats aren't frozen.

It was 64 degrees April 1st and 48 degrees and drizzly the next day. Your bats were far from being frozen.

Good pitching always tops good hitting.
