The Cubs are Watered Down League Champions. Now we will see how they play against your unbeatable AL Champs. The Cubs should just forfeit.

Cant believe they did it. I'm so happy I don't have to wait until next year. Was classy the Sox sent a congratulations tweet. Congrats to all the Cub fans who stuck with the organization. I know plenty who started rooting for other teams over the years. That 8th and 9th made me crazy. We could easily have lost that game. This was our year.

The Cubs are the talk of not only the town but of all of baseball. No one cares about the Sox. 3rd largest market in the United States. 4th lowest attendance. The Marlins are averaging more fans than the Sox lol
-3

Typical Cub fan, ignore the incredible failure and futility of your franchise:

1) No World Series appearance for 70 years (1945)
2) No World Series title for over 100 years (1908)
3) The one season the Cubs played the White Sox in the World Series the White Sox won (1906)
4) Only 6 seasons with 90 or more wins in the last 70 years.

All you can talk about is attendance, newsflash nobody awards championships for attendance. 03-lmfao

The White Sox have the best W-L record in the AL, continuing that gives the Sox home field advantage throughout the AL playoffs With the American Leagues dominance over the National League in the All Star Game (12-3-1 tie since 2000; 19-6-1 since 1990) plus the game being played in an AL ballpark this year; odds are high for another AL victory which sets up the post season very nicely for the
AL Champion giving that team home field advantage in the World Series (DH will be used in 4 of 7 games).

So if by some miracle the Cubs actually win the NL Championship; they will be at a disadvantage in the World Series, most likely.

But then facts and logic have never been the strong suit of Cub fans.

Bump.

RE: Chicago baseball
Sox fans, are you worried that this World Series creates a dark ages for the White Sox? In all reality the Sox should find a new market to play baseball in? They weren't able to compete for fans when the Cubs had a 108 year drought. How will they gain any fans now? It's kind of like Michigan and EMU.....to a lesser extent.

Sox fans, are you worried that this World Series creates a dark ages for the White Sox?

NO. The as long as the white sox continues to put mediocre teams on the field, the attendance will largely reflect the product. A 'dark ages' is self-inflicted, not externally imposed.

In all reality the Sox should find a new market to play baseball in?

NO. They truly serve a lot of the chicagoland area south of madison st. (even south suburbs) and NW indiana. The goal was never truly to "dominate" the chicago market. Think Mets. Very similar situation. They largely are a neighborhood team that serves Queens and the surrounding areas. The yankees are more of a national team.

They weren't able to compete for fans when the Cubs had a 108 year drought.

It was never about competing for fans. The core of the two fanbases are distinctly different based on geography and won't budge.

How will they gain any fans now? It's kind of like Michigan and EMU.....to a lesser extent.

You gain fans by winning. Unlike NIU (to which many have grown cynical), the marketing dept. of the Sox is very strong. If the product on the field is strong, then the marketing dept will be able to leverage the product better. However, I never expected the team to pull in diehard Cub fans. Mich/EMU is an extreme comparison. The resource discrepancy there is more akin to comparing a pro team to a minor league team. Yankees/Mets are more reasonable comparison.

That said - if you think it was always about "pulling away" cub fans or sox fans, you don't have a true understanding of the dynamic in Chicago. They are just two almost different populations. There is no doubt that a lot of people are recently bandwagoned fans. It happens when teams wins.

I wouldn't be concerned about the "current sox fans" or lack their of.....I'd be concerned about the younger fans whose parents are Sox fans and see winning baseball in town on the north side of town. Kids will gravitate towards winning franchises.....The Cubs were the anomaly where they gained fans even with losing. Now that they have won, and will likely continue to win I don't see how the Sox can compete for new young fans.

I'm really serious when it comes to a new market. Perhaps moving the team to Indy would help the team build a small market fan base and allow the blue collar workers south of Madison street a team to root for.

In 2016:

Yankees were #6 in attendance. Mets were #9.
Cubs were #5 in attendance. Sox were #26.

Terrible comparison.

its not about attendance comparison. its about the scale comparison between fanbases. this is an overreaction to an event that happened recently. sports is generally cyclical...at some point the sox will win again. then they will gain fans of that particular year/period.

people on this board thought NIU would rise for an infinite amount of time. every team has their ups and downs and fanbases go thru peaks and valleys. same cyclical mindset

RE: Chicago baseball
in the end, the question of relocation comes to profitability. the sox make a ton of money being in chicago...u may get monopoly in a town like indy, but the media market is far smaller than even being 2nd fiddle in chicago. in the last round of contraction talk a few yrs back it was the twins and possibly the marlins...but now baseball is ridiculously profitable that the talk is expansion

Kind of odd how the Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years finally catching up to the White Sox and their biggest concern right now is with White Sox fans, seems pretty crazy to me.

Hardly the biggest concern. Had you not been so adamant on the Cubs not winning the World Series this year, I highly doubt any Cubs fan would bother you. However:

Cubs already took the sloppy seconds by being the 2nd one to win the world series. That is kind of white sox territory, that the cubs are now familiar with after those sloppy seconds
