Strong recruiting pickup by @RiceOwlsBSB as they land 2018 INF Justin Dunlap ( @justinjddunlap8 )

From Dripping Springs. Is he Andrew's brother? Anyone have info on this guy? I gather he played in the recent Area Code games, as well as various Perfect Game events.

He's not Andrew's brother. Andrew only has two sisters. Not much info on him as he was only a sophomore last season.

Blessed and excited to say that I have committed to play baseball at Rice University! @RiceBaseball #GoOwls #stxs

From the picture on twitter, he appears to be a RHP. Does anyone know anything about him?

Kiddy is a 2019'er according to PG. According to them, he already throws 87 MPH and has offers from UT, A&M, LSU, Oregon St, and others..

Hard to get that excited though when he won't throw his first pitches for the Owls for 3 1/2 years.

Wow, we beat out quite a lot of elite programs there. No reason for him to commit this far in advance unless he was truly sold on all that Rice has to offer.

RE: 2017 Baseball Recruiting
Just an FYI-- -FIU currently has the #6 ranked recruiting class for next year's incoming class, including 6 Top 100 prospects. My guess is that at least half of them never matriculate, but still, that's pretty darn good considering they're in CUSA and competing for recruits against perennial powers Miami, FAU and Florida, as well as a very solid UCF program.

I gather he's a Floridian.

BTW, Van Hook tweets the war owl video whenever we get a commit.

Apparently the guys a stud-- great pickup. This from Perfect Game...

He's from Avon Park in South Central Florida.

Googling "Josh Rivera" and "Avon Park" and/or "Florida Burn" yields quite a few news stories and short videos.

2019 is still a way out, though.

Collegiate Baseball had our incoming 2016 - '17 recruiting class ranked at #34 (ahead of Stanford), which save for one or two previous years during the Wayne Graham era, has been pretty much where we usually are positioned...

The real question is who matriculates. Seems like Rice has lost a few more high school recruits to the pros in the last ~5-7 years that we did earlier in the Wayne Graham era. Hard to say whether that was caused by changed in the MLB vs. NCAA landscape, changes in the draft, changes in the perception of Rice baseball, changes in the ability of the coaching staff to identify players who actually wanted to come to college, or something else.

??? This ranking was done after classes started. It's the current Freshman and JUCO transfers who have already matriculated.

Ahh, sorry about that! I saw the '17 and overlooked the 2016 part of the sentence. Thanks for the clarification!

Rivera is very highly thought of in the younger class circles. Video highlights of him look really good for a kid his age. Very quick, powerful bat. Smooth looking player.

I'd bet he committed to the blue & gray because he got really tired of wearing that ugly burnt orange.

...in fact, they don't even have us ranked in their Top 100. Go figure.
