I'm guessing: $172.500.

Welcome home coach Rowe
This is a great hire. The decision to pay or not pay COA is a decision that was never going to be made as part of this hiring process. We were clearly going to hire a coach that wanted to be here whether we paid COA or not. So in the context of needing to hire a coach within a budget and without the promise of COA I think we did great.

Louis Rowe is a great guy, bleeds purple and gold and is a hell of a recruiter. The current player are excited about him and keeping Deane is a great first move. He is inexperienced but if he develops this could be a really nice long term hire for JMU.

It's time to separate the anger at the administration (Alger) for their position on COA and get behind Coach Rowe and this team again.

I will be renewing my season tickets and be there rooting!

I said from the get go no one would want this gig. It is a COA world.

Best of luck to Louis Rowe.

I like Lou. That being said, he checks NONE of the boxes for a successful coaching search.

Our leadership is a disgrace to our alma mater. Personal agendas have taken priority over reality....and in typical higher Ed fashion, everything keeps going on business as usual. No accountability at JMU whatsoever. None of these jokes would last 2 minutes outside of JMU.

Spot on!

It's the best hire Jmu could make.
Made no sense for Sanchez to leave an associate head job at a top ten program with top 5 most respected coaching staff to go to a mid major to completely rebuild a program. He has in past and will be in discussion for many P5 jobs, wouldn't be surprised if he ends up somewhere in big ten or acc soon.

Second Rowe while not a blow you out of water hire, is the "young assistant with connection to program and great energy" everyone was calling for on these boards last year.

Rowe getting right assistants...starting with Deane, will help him buck the learning curve. Deane also helps in getting games he wouldn't be able to get for lack of connections.

If there is one thing I know is the college basketball world and what things add up to success in it. Rowe has had my support for awhile in admin and I was sad to see him go as an assistant.he is a great hire.

+1

$125,000.

Kidding. Nothing has come out yet but I wouldn't be surprised to see it below where Brady was.

I'd be very surprised if it's over $225-250

I would be shocked it its over 200K. I say $175K.

Sunderland tweeted earlier this week that Rowe was only a given a "courtesy interview". I wonder if the other candidates backed out upon seeing our budget

I think Sanchez was interested and that is why he interviewed. When they didn't give him a firm answer on COA and then asked him to come over the mountain for a 5K bump in pay, that was the end of the interview. I wasn't in the room but I guarantee I am not far off.

The same conversation happened 10 months ago with the baseball coach (minus the COA part).

I love this hire. I can see guys wanting to play for him. With all this negativity, I had to double check to make sure I wasn't on the tick's board. Brady was never going to recruit to have a team that would be playing in March. Signing Sanchez was a HUGE long shot. If Coach Rowe recruits like some folks are saying, (especially bigs) the next few years could be fun to watch. I think he could bring much needed energy to the MBB program.

BTW, the Ticks are always looking for fans, I hear they even give free sweater vests to new donors.

Sunderland had very little information about this hiring thing, secondarily information at best, from someone who asked someone who was in department.

What if I told you that Rowe was option 1A the whole time, with admin needing some convincing of experience(Deane retention, after consulting with Brady of course)

Headhunter is needed these days to bypass certain things and cross trivial T's and dot i's. Wouldn't want to hire someone just to find out they have a big by out clause. Wouldn't want to skil over someone that you didn't even know you had a shot at.

If Rowe was 1a, then Brady should never have been fired. An unproven assistant with little success at weak mid-majors....take away the alum angle, and that's what Rowe is.

RE: Welcome home coach Rowe
I always love to see a JMU Duke in front of anything.

No question that coach Rowe will want success for all of the right reasons. I loved the Kenny Brooks comment on the leap of faith jumping over to coach the Lady Dukes initially. Where given a chance he rode that horse as long as it made sense.

I am going to have to hope that we have an eager coach, who might have some great ideas in mind based on very direct lessons learned here. I think Rowe can recruit, I think he can relate to his team well, I think he will become much more involved in the community, and he should have some success in stimulating fan interest. He will need to show that he can handle the x's and o's and all of the management required as the head coach. Deane will hopefully be the force to complement some of these aspects.

An early task would be to mend fences with Lefty and get some to that legacy associated again with the program.

Rowe was not 1a. Not even close.

I have not bashed on the admin because I like the hire, but if Rowe was 1a, that would be a complete embarrassment for the athletic department.

FIU, Rider, Bowling Green...give me a break. BGSU is coming off of a stellar 16-18 year. I think he helped lead FIU to about a 500 record. I hope I am wrong and he is a world beater. But honestly, taking everything in condsideration with the direction of our athletics this sucks. No one is surprised though

Like the Lou Rowe hire and can really get behind supporting him and his team. The same cannot be said of JMU Admin (Alger).

For those that had a 'hard-on' for Sanchez......JMU did try the assistant for a 'hot' coach in recent history when they hired Keener from GT. There is no guarantee when hiring a HC. At the mid-major/JMU level I would rather take a flyer with a less experienced guy that will not command as high of a salary. But that's just me.

If that was in fact the plan after firing Brady, I'm even more convinced that we are doomed. I was one of those that supported Brady being fired, but it was only under the premise that they had someone better. Had I known beforehand this was their plan I would not have supported it. Not sure how a coach that has had minimal success is gonna be the guy to take us to the next level. I just don't get it.
