RE: NCAA D1 Basketball Transfers
Matthews leaving is a bit of a surprise. He was one of Keatts' first pieces to be recruited and probably envisioned a lot of playing time in his future even as a freshman. So I can see the frustration. his departure though isn't much of a shocker. There were several games where the team would win big or come from behind and the team would be all smiles with the crowd or teammates but he never looked happy. Also following his Twitter it was evident in his tweets he wasn't happy here. It's a loss, especially since he was obvious he had a knowledge for the game and talent but with his spot minutes he was trying to force too many things to justify more playing time. Sad to see him go but hope he finds somewhere that'll work out better.

Anyone else find it ironic our transfers are now announcing days after the star news runs an article on how stability was key at UNCW and how suprising it was?

No surprise if you think about it fro a second. He came in hot and did not play,I went to three games and never saw him play one second.
Cacock has potential to be a very good defender/rebounder junk man down low. I don't know about his skills but he should be able to handle it physically. That was the part of the game that Gettys struggles with.

Maybe they can get Bryant from UNCA/Hoggard to walkon. The other UNCA player -Sutton is walking on at Louisville and I hear his Mom works there, makes sense. He is a good player but could easily sit the bench there for 3 years.

He played early and struggled with his shooting. Looked like he slowly lost confidence as the games progressed. Something I believe he would have worked out of next year.

Sorry to see Mark leave, wish him the best. As many have said, he seemed to have height, a jumper, and a knowledge that had not yet all climaxed.

Maybe Mark had a change of heart. All references of him leaving have been deleted.

RE: NCAA D1 Basketball Transfers
I hope so. Too many Freshman are coming into college and expecting to start or play significant minutes. Mark had flashes where you could see his potential. He is a heady player, and made really good passes and decisions with the ball. He's also a good defender. His time will come if he stays.

Matthews biggest problem was he didn't realize he could compete at this level. There were many times that Matthews made moves to the basket, had the elevation and position to finish, and didn't finish for fear of a blocked shot when he could have dunked on the guy.

IMO, he needs to get more aggressive and confident in his game and realize he's as good as anyone on the court. If he does, he could be phenomenal. He has the size, skills and intelligence to be a player.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out for sure. I do agree with everyone that said he could certainly contribute. But i also feel like anytime you get a big group of newcomers, 1 or 2 always drop because they didn't become a big piece of the puzzle.

Mosley was last listed as a 6'1" G. He's a Hargrave grad, so likely has a strong bond to Coach Keatts.

Also of interest, he violated team rules twice last year. The first earned him a 3 game suspension and the second incident caused his dismissal from the team.

If it's true he's gonna be a Seahawk, I hope he gets his head on straight.

Yea, a head scratcher. I've seen 6'1"-6'3". Could be a walk on?

I'm hoping a walk on, as a Flemmings style test to see if he has it back together. That would be the best case scenario, I agree Bill!

I don't understand why we're adding another guard. We need a big! Especially with CJ leaving. That also points to a walk on and giving a couple bigs scholarships along with our man Flemmings.

RE: NCAA D1 Basketball Transfers
Mosley is listed on past ODU game programs as being 6'2". He is going to be a RS Senior for your team. Only played briefly for ODU this season due to the early suspension followed shortly thereafter by a permanent one. He never had a chance to get into any rhythm with the team this year because of that I would guess and his shooting percentage was down from previous seasons. Prior to this season he was one of our best 3 point shooters and is also a solid defender at the 2 guard spot. I'm sure he would be an even better 3 point shooter if he had more chances of the spot up - catch and shoot variety instead of the running off a pick, twisting/turning after the catch, and shooting type that he always seemed to be taking while at ODU. Even with all of that he made some remarkable shots. He was always one of our first players off the bench and was capable of being a starter though we had some older talented guards playing ahead of him (Freeman & Baycote).

By and large the ODU fans all liked him and were sorry to see him get into issues with the team that caused his dismissal. I honestly don't think he is a troublesome kid. Just think he made a couple of bad decisions and has probably grown from it. I wish him nothing but the best and I think he will do well for UNCW.

Would admit I don't understand the addition to the roster, hope it has nothing to do concerning Matthews. Very good players are presently fighting for playing time, why complicate the situation with one more of apparently equal skill.

Matthews has 3 years left to prove he can be an effective spot-up shooter. Mosley is a guy who will only be here for 1 season. It's not a redundant skillset if Matthews isn't quite ready to be thrust into that role; it's a much needed skillset. Especially since we just lost Dylan Sherwood and Craig Ponder, two of our top outside shooters. You can never really have enough of those to stretch defenses out.

That's how I'm guessing Coach Keatts sees Mosley: An immediate replacement for the Seniors we just lost from an outside shooting perspective, having little to do with Matthews. I like the addition.

Why take a player that was kicked off his team at all? Not to mention he has not exactly been great on the court. Knucklehead

Logic dictates the fallout isn't over:

Guards

Mosley
Fornes
Talley
Ingram
Richmond
Flemmings
Bryce
Matthews

That's nine players looking for PY in 3, maybe 4 positions. Even if we exclusively play a 4 guard lineup, that's a lot of bench time for several players. With the addition of Elmore, I expect to see Flemmings as the only guard playing the 4, leaving even less PT for the players above.
