UA stuff looks pretty cool. This could end up being a good thing. How dumb would a player have to be to only go to a school because they got free Nike stuff?

They probably wouldn't like the Nike logo on them.

They can make an Under Armour version of the Bham jersey. I've always wanted them to have a "magic city" jersey also. I think that would be cool.

Our current conference affiliation will have a far greater negative effect on the ability to recruit highly prized players in the future than any shoe contract.

RE: BREAKING: Under Armour and UAB — A Match Made In Birmingham
under armour is the biggest corporate sponsor of Maryland athletics and have done stuff with uniforms that is IMHO ugly and garish, but is hugely popular, especially with a younger demographic.

With their Curry contract, I suspect Nike's hegemony in hoops is in danger. Curry is potentially bigger than L James, and may be the most exciting player since Jordan.

No. i mean they better have their own version of a Birmingham jersey and not drop it and only have UAB ones.

Go to the recruiting thread and look at how many kids we're interested in are involved with AAU. Nike is heavily involved there.

Yeah, the Maryland stuff doesn't exactly make anyone anxious to get some of that, but I think what they've been doing for most of the contracted schools was alright. To me, Adidas is the clear front runner in poor uniform design. I really don't mind most of the UA designs I've seen and I'm looking forward to we get here.

And you know who else throws A LOT of money at AAU teams ? Soft Drink Companies. Pepsi, Gatorade, Powerade, Coke, Mountain Dew, etc. each brand has a budget and they heavily fund AAU teams.

Under Armor makes some of the most uncomfortable athletics shoes ever. I hope they have improved since I last bought a pair. ( 2 years ago :-p )

Since the scandal broke about NIKE shoes made in Viet Nam, I have wondered about other brands as well. Where were your Under Armor shoes made?

Wherever they can be most cheaply made. Welcome to American Capitalism.

RE: BREAKING: Under Armour and UAB — A Match Made In Birmingham
FWIW

I just spoke with someone who is big inside the 7-on-7 football world. He said in the short run the UAB-UnderArmour marriage will probably be a good thing with the resources the UA will throw our way...greatly increasing the $500.000 yearly outfitting budget currently with NIKE. BUT...he was adamant that UA was a inferior product to NIKE, especially in shoes. He said he, "had one kid blow out the bottom of a pair of UA cleats the first day he wore them"

He was unsure if UA had enough clout to pressure stores into carrying the merchandise as had been discussed with NIKE last summer.
