He was probably the best bench coach they ever had. Go figure
Tubby is a Dayum good X and O guy
Tubby Smith is a great coach, sucks as a recruiter. One of my best friends is a Kentucky grad. Asked what to expect from Cal, I said the opposite of Tubby. About two years later, I asked him how it was going, "he said, like you said". LOL, I had told him average coach, but the talent would be incredible.

National champion
Pitino's players doe.
Coaching is different from recruiting, Tubby can't recruit.
Probably too clean? Boring?

Almost every high level DI basketball team has never been afraid to cheat or pay players

Gillespie: TX Tech (Sutton)
Only one (Pitino) got a better gig after leaving UK.
Actually it's worst than that for Gillespie. He coached at Texas Tech BEFORE he went to Kentucky. He is now the coach and AD at Ranger Community College in Ft, Worth TX.

He coached at A&M before Kentucky. He went to Tech after UK and got fired for berating players and pretty much being a drunk and a whole lot of other stuff

So basically the NBA, a Big 10 job and two Big 12 jobs.
Seems better than one Big 10, one SEC, two assistant gigs, NW Louisiana, and McNeese State.
And I wonder where the two current coaches would end up if leaving today?
We're looking at NBA and Texas-San Antonio.
Seems comparable.
You aren't trying to contend that Minnesota, OK State and TX Tech are "greener pastures" after coaching at Kentucky, are you? Your words...not mine.

Unless you get in trouble, it's heaven and you retire.
