30 football player named all academic
With only 63 scholarships to offer, its quite amazing that JMU had 30 football players achieve CAA All Academic.
This is quite an accomplishment.
I'm proud of every one of them.

Really surprised this has not been mentioned yet.

We have 85 on some type scholarship and a maximum of 95 with walk-on's. Probably around 55± with a full ride. Nevertheless, you made a good point.

Prior to "bolting"* to Texas State, the previous coach stressed academics.

Yup, have to give EW props for stressing academics and also for not putting up w/ any shenanigans from his players.

He also demanded his players go to class and stay out of trouble. I met a lot of these young men over the last two years and I was impressed. They represented our university well.

Teams MAY split some of the 63 full schollies so you up to 85 on some level of scholly. Don't know if JMU typically did that under Withers..

According to the NCAA manual for FCS you can have more than 95 on your roster. Just limited to 95 who can be practicing by the beginning of the season. There also is an exception for up to 110. NCAA manual explains it all on pages 252-253.

Looking at NDSU's roster from last season they have about 108 players pictured in uniform..

I give Withers an A on handling of players and focus on academics. But I give him a D- (and that might be charitable) on playoff performance.

Losing to Liberty and home. And losing at home his final season as a 3 touchdown favorite. 03-banghead

Without Vad, this team was likely close to a 500 team. Not well coached on defense - his forte.

That 110 exception is interesting because it basically states scholarships can only be given for financial need and athletes get no special accommodations/aid that other non-althlete students wouldn't also receive. Wonder if NDSU really does this, or is just skirting the rules by claiming they do.
