Great performances by both squads. You have to realize that we won both titles (second in a row for the men, by the way) having forfeited more than 20 diving points to start the meets in each championship meet as we have no divers.
Why no divers? We don't have diving facility at W&M.

Didn't Adair pool used to have diving facilities?

The Adair diving facilities were substandard and removed years ago. We are unable to train divers for the team, thus we go into every meet with our opponents already having 20+ points.
This is one reason why winning both conference championships is a remarkable feat.

How much would it cost to add diving facilities? Seems like it could be a good investment

My understanding is that this wasn't just a facilities decision. Pulling diving also diverted scholarship/coaching money to swimming I believe. I may be wrong about this, but I thought this was the case. I don't think it's a coincidence that our performance in the swimming events improved when diving went away.

There really isn't the available space at Adair for a decent diving venue...the old one years ago didn't meet NCAA standards. In truth the entire Adair pool is substandard and that is why a new swim complex is on the want list for the College.
One possible avenue is that W&M and Wmsbg/James City could work together on a new swim complex located at William and Mary. The former have no adequate pool for their schools and there have been discussions on a joint effort.
But any swim complex seems a long way away.

WISC is exploring an aquatic center to be constructed next to their Warhill facility. Diving may be part of that.

Crispino, an alum and architect of what is WMs sport of most recent sustained success has bolted for Princeton. Couldnt find the dollars to keep him?
"Over his dozen years, W&M won seven Colonial Athletic Association Championships, including back-to-back women's titles in 2016 and 2017 and the last five-straight men's titles. Before winning his team's first championship in 2015, the Tribe men had never before won a conference championship dating back to 1928, while the women had only ever won once before, in 2007."

Maybe swimming is a sport on the chopping block to fund the revenue sports

Wonder why everyone is leaving W&M. Seems strange. It's like something changed over the past couple of years.

Maybe because we pay our swim coach minimum wage for a D-1 swim program that has no diving program and a crappy swim facility. This program is on borrowed time under Huge...and the coaches know it.

The question about cutting sports was asked directly and she said there are no plans whatsoever to cut any sport. She also said there's no plan for a swimming facility unless someone shows up with money for it, but that's not quite the same as "borrowed time". It's more accurate to say that "This program is not getting more funding under Huge...and the coaches know it."

The program has been underfunded for years, I sorta feel like we're putting more of a blame on Huge for that than she deserves

CAA Champions the past 5 years. Perfect conference record the past 5 years. No diving program to help with that. Always tops in APR and academic distinctions. No full scholarships, only a few partial scholarships for out-of-state student-athletes.
2 long term and highly successful swim coaches head for the hills within the past month. Both wanted to be here whilst the program was embarrassingly underfunded but, suddenly split. 2 assistants remain, one of whom is slotted to start his second year at W&M.
Believe what you want about how our swimming program suddenly found itself in this situation. We'll all pay attention to how this unfolds and reassess accordingly.

Yes, the underfunding was clearly not the reason they left. They were used to that and had learned to thrive in that situation. It could be that they simply wanted better (higher paying, more prestigious) jobs ...but they hadn't seemed to be looking for better jobs before (in fact, Crispino made it clear about how much he loved W'burg). It does look like the differentiating factor is Huge.
It is bad enough when she takes actions to screw up sports that weren't winning (basketball, volleyball) ---- but it really annoys me when she takes actions/inactions to mess up the sports that ARE (rather, make that WERE) winning championships (tennis, swimming).

We all know that she's trying to move up to bigger and better things. Resume building seems to be her greatest skill. I just hope she cleans up some of the mess rather than leave us with some sort of nuclear waste dump site.

Swimming has been underfunded forever at W&M and there is no money for a new sim complex.
Crespino left because he got a terrific financial deal at Princeton, which also has a modern natatorium.
That was it, simply put.
