He's a good, but not elite athlete. He looks like he could put on 5-10 lbs, but should be ready to play some minutes this year.
He didn't carry the offensive load nearly as much as a guy like Curtis, but we won't need him too here either. Looks like a guy who next year can make open 3's and hopefully make good decisions with the basketball. I doubt he will be the primary ball handler often.
I still expect us to continue recruiting at PG and probably add a true PG.
I love that we added MAW - he feels like a solid four year player and truly helps with class balance. But we do still need a true PG, or a player with enough experience and versatility - a la Jaevin - who can be effective in that role.

Agreed, as I said in another thread he reminds me of Kevin Johnson. A solid four year player who will be an excellent contributor to the team, though he may never be the star player. But I don't think he's ready to be the PG for this years team and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as a SG in the long-term.

I am guessing any player commitments after May 15 are not set in stone.
Yes. They sign scholarship papers.

PG transfer from Tennessee Tech. I haven't been able to find much about him, other than the fact that his next team will be his fifth in five years: https://collegebasketball.nbcsports.com/...nsferring/
After that article, he ended up at Tennessee Tech last season.

That's the only Chris McNeal I found, but I didn't see any news about him transferring from Tennessee Tech, and honestly, his stats (which seem completely opposed to what JB is looking for) and travels that put Odysseus' to shame make me slightly worried.

I can't say I'll be excited if he's the guy, but I'm willing to trust coach until he proves me wrong. PG is undeniably a position of need and, suffice it to say, this guy is experienced (across 4 programs).

Can't find the instagram post; also would be worried about all his travels. If he comes I am sure Brannen probably has checked with sources and is comfortable with him. Average stats and very streaky scorer; maybe there are good reports about his development while sitting out last year due to transfer rules. Looks good on his videos (every recruit does) but would fill the need for an experienced point guard. We would still need another shooting guard like Jaevin, Tease or Mack. It would be interesting to know what is going on with Cumberland's cousin; if he is truly still undecided I guess Brannen needs to be very diplomatic in this situation and wait by not making it first come first serve with the other potential options.

McNeil has been well traveled in part because of coaches leaving. He went on the portal after TT coach left after the season which is who recruited him. I believe he may have also ended up in a coaching change over at New Mexico. He's shown flashes, and obviously has quite a bit of experience. I think he's more of an up tempo guy from what i've seen which fits in with what we have next year. I'm ok with him as a 1 year guy. Supposed to be an excellent athlete.

His shooting stats are straight out of a MC erotica fanfiction...let's hope the staff can help that out a bit.

McNeal will be on his 5th school in 5 years, wow. At least we know he can't leave us at any point.
Probably wouldn't be a huge addition but adds much needed depth at the PG position, takes some pressure off JC and MAW. We have scholarships to burn, so I am ok taking a couple flyers on 5th year guys that won't be taking up spots for the next 4 years.

I've heard that Brannen is fairly familiar with McNeal from his days as a high school player in Tennessee. However, i'm not sure this is the next one in. We'll see, unpredictable year. Things are going to get boring in a few weeks.

I'm starting the think Jaevin isn't happening now. Spots are filling up in all the wrong places to attract him...

Hard to say. I haven't really seen any comments from either of them whether they sought to play together to begin with. However, i think we're going to see an entirely different pace offensively next year so it's going to likely be a smaller quicker lineup which leaves plenty of opportunity for backcourt and wing guys.

It made sense to think that Jaevin was waiting for Jarron to return, but it makes no sense that Jaevin would wait past this week before signing, if he were going to do so. I've never watched the guy play, but I'm not convinced from what I've read that fans here would have half as much interest in him if his last name were anything other than "Cumberland."

I'd be far more interested in a guy with who shot 40% from 3 on 8 attempts per game and averaged 17 points per game last year than someone who has been to 5 schools in 5 years, shot below 37% from the field in his last year of playing D1 ball, and hasn't played since 2017-18 regardless of their names.

The key is getting a senior PG. Can't waste Scott/Cumberland's senior seasons. You only return a conference player of the year and potential all american so often. I don't know that it rules out Jaevin, but I guess we'll see.
