Basically with a fcs squad we've gone down to the wire with #8 GT, a bowl team in NCSU and a 10 win sec team. The encouraging part is that the talent level in our last two recruiting classes has increased significantly and there are more scholarships.

The next few years should be exciting. The big question is finding a big time QB.

and we got our a$$es handed to us by a mediocre WVU, Navy, App State, and Ga State......

The next few years will be exciting, but let's not ignore the blowout losses like they never happened.

It sounds like you are saying the team the next few years will be roughly the same as the last two years. Going to have to disagree with you there.

I believe the talent level is increasing significantly and most of those guys are reshirts, freshman or Sophmores. I expect a marked improvement and the fact we competed with top teams with lesser athletes than we will have is a good sign.

where did I say or hint that our team will be the same? I was just pointing out that using games against GT and NCstate to prove that we will get better is a poor example when there are terrible losses in our schedule too.

Point I'm making is that we have been a top 60 team the past couple of years that even competed with top 10 teams and 10 win sec teams. And with our talent level improving we can expect to improve to the next level. You appear to disagree.

We likely will be about the same. We will still be heavily dependent on FCS kids this year and our last two recruiting classes were not even the best in the Belt. This is the first year we have had a distinct separation in recruiting and these kids will likely not do anything for three years. Which means our passing game might not be any good for another two years. Our two non throwing QB's are still #1 and #2 on the depth chart.

So unless we got more diamonds in the rough than the other teams in the Belt I expect to be battling it out with the other top teams in the Belt, not likely beating any top P5's and the occasional upset for the near term. You need multiple classes like this to start making noise not just one. So unless we maintain or improve on this class don't expect much different. Although winning records, bowl wins and conference championships will suffice in the meantime.

good teams might have a bad loss. Not 3 in one season. We will continue to improve, but to think that we will be the next boise in the next year or two is stretching it.

Where do you get this idea? The WAC was bad in 2006 and 2009 but Boise made up for it with good P5 wins (including a Pac-12 champion).

If we don't succeed the way Boise does it will be because of us and only us.

RE: SBC NSD Class Rankings
App State and GaSo fans, please correct me if I'm wrong but weren't the vast majority of your "FCS recruits" I keep hearing about recruited as FBS recruits who knew they would play FBS in the Belt, and for the upperclassmen who, like most new recruits, didn't they know that they'd be playing FBS their entire career after redshirting their freshman seasons? I guess I'm just wondering how there's any point at all to the oft-spoken (by both fan bases) "... and just wait, we've accomplished this with FCS recruits" type comments if they were TRULY recruited as FBS in the first place?

I could definitely see that point being valid the first season of FBS but is it truly a relevant point at this time? I'm not trying to troll, but I didn't see one player on either team who looked like an FCS recruit to me last year.

14' 15' and 16' classes were recruited to FBS...their invitation was accepted in March of 13'

Both App and GS announced 3/27/13 they were moving to the FBS. The 2013 class was signed in February with maybe the idea that we'd be moving up but no guarantee.

App's class that year included QB Lamb, RB Cox and Upshaw, LB Gilchrist, DE Norwood, OL Nunn, Collins, Gosset.

All seniors last year and this year were also pre-FBS announcement signees.

You could make the case that an average GS or App FCS recruit is better than the average FCS recruit overall, and I think both fanbases would say that the top 4 or 5 of each of our FCS recruiting classes was probably equal to mid-level SB recruits due to both schools history and tradition--so maybe that is what you were seeing.

Yeah I don't see a huge difference in the top half a dozen players signed as an FCS member to today, now we just get 18 of them. With attrition and the % that development ours odds are much better now.

Boise has a ton of bad losses over the past decade without being an FCS startup.

Any FCS tallent that remains on the roster has had ample time in the weight room and conditioning to close any gap that existed early. I think we've learned that it's more about what you do after signing. GS and App do well after signing day.

The fcs talent is 14-2 in the SBC. What gap are you referring to?

There is no FCS talent on GS's team. You've known for a few years you were going FBS. You can stop that crap now.

It really doesn't matter about FCS talent or what we are bringing in now. I would say much of the talent we were getting were as talented as much the talent we are getting now just not as big physically by position. Some of the talent we are getting now is better, but as I see it GS will continue to climb the latter in recruiting, and continue to bring in more and more higher rated prospects. Because of GS's location and attractiveness will be the biggest reasons, along with a winning tradition, the state of Georgia is loaded with talent along with north Florida, and I don't see any reason GS wont continue to grow its football success.

You've answered your own question. I didn't say there was FCS talent, I said any that remains.

The point I was making in the original post is that any FCS talent is now a junior or senior and has had the time to close any gap the exists between a normal roster of freshman and sophomores. As they move up in class they're competing with more FBS recruits and able to maintain their positions.

I'm pretty sure that all of the sun belt teams are trembling in fear worried about the pending domination by GS football. 07-coffee3

Well, everyone except Georgia State. 04-cheers

Looking forward to the GS beatdown in Jonesboro next season. Go ahead and mark it down.
