"Attendance was primarily tracked through an app called Red Black Rewards."

RE: "No Free Tuition After NIU Football Attendance Contest"
To be honest HJ, I looked up quite a few articles and it said nothing about the 6,000 students. That bullet point you showed is the only place. I would be hard pressed to say that it was obvious to the students that there needed to be a minimum of 6k students per game to qualify for this.

http://collegefootball.ap.org/article/fr...ball-games

http://q985online.com/niu-is-giving-away...all-games/

http://myniu.com/blog/free-tuition-incentive/

From NIU site:

http://www.niuhuskies.com/sports/m-footb...15aab.html

Quote:NIU students are asked to WEAR RED to every home game this season, except the Black Out on Nov. 24. Also making its debut this year is a student attendance initiative called “Mission 6” with the goal to have at least 6,000 NIU students at each of the Huskies’ six home football games in 2015. Students who attend every game and stay for the whole game will be eligible to win free tuition for the Spring 2016 semester. Stay tuned as “Mission 6” will carry over to other sports throughout the year.

...Ya its not really spelled out anywhere in an article other than what I posted.

Sucks to have had this kind of backfire.

Seems like a weird promotion then, when my winning something depends on 6000 other people doing something as well, I doubt I trust them and I doubt I care that much.

Students. Does not say they have to be NIU. How do they know how many grade, HS, other college students were there?

"are in attendance for all six 2015 home games."

Shouldn't that say "are in attendance for each of the six 2015 home games?"
There were 6,000 students in the stands in total for all 6 games.

Where's Johnny Cochran? Peter Francis Geraci? Lionel Hutz?

LOL, and I even mentioned you pasted that article. Glad I was roasted. So it was included in the obscure weekly football release but not stipulated when it was announced earlier.

My point is not that they did not say it, just that it wasn't an obvious rule, which is unfortunate.

Wow what a kick in the teeth to the 89 students who attended EVERY home game. This promotion should NEVER have been run like it was. No way should those 89 have to depend on other students attendance. 89 ATTENDED ALL HOME GAMES. I think good old Maurice White & NIU need to cough up that free tuition price to one of those 89. Period.

I agree with MileHigh - this would REALLY leave a bad taste in my mouth if I were one of those 89. Fine print?? REally?? Comes across more like a scam if you ask me. A scam perpetrated by their own school.

Shame on you Maurice White and NIU. 05-nono

That was my point:

-It sucks that the attendance was so anemic.
-It sucks that the number of "official" participants was so low - 89
-It sucks that more students didn't know about it (see the Chronicle today). I'm not really concerned about what NIU did to communicate the promotion. Simply, it didnt work.
-It sucks that the promotion included a lesson in "following the rules".
-It sucks that the promotion included a provision for something that is essentially free to give away.
-It sucks that this provision creates a negative out of what should have been a positive.

What I would have liked to have seen - Remove the contingencies (save the rules lessons for the classroom). At halftime of the last game, or at the next Basketball game, draw from all eligible (89) participants, announce the winner and present it, on the spot.

It's still not too late. Honor the spirit of the promotion and, make at student happy. Get on the front page of the paper in a positive way.

I can't seem to find the original release on it, but I wonder.

also, Randy, really? You think they're including non-NIU students? I don't think so, hahaha. :)

There are obviously flaws with how this was conducted in terms of count, probably would have better just to award it to one of those 90 students instead of repelling every student from this point forward.
